This was yesterday's harvest from our school garden. Eight pounds of cabbage, 1.3 pounds of a variety of radishes. More cabbage to harvest today. I give them the whole cabbage plant minus the roots because it is all edible. All to the cafeteria.

Its that time of the year again. I know I hear a lot about how schools should have gardens. We have one. We need help, especially over the summer. We host a Tilling and Tending Family Garden Time every other Tuesday from 5-6PM. If you come out and help maintain the garden, you get some free veggies for your help.. See the flier and QR Code for more information.

🚀✨ Newtown blasted off with an out-of-this-world SOL Pep Rally last Friday! Our Space Theme Pep Rally was all about getting our 3rd graders excited, motivated, and ready to ACE their SOL tests! 🌟

Students were cheered on by the Bayside Cheerleaders, heard encouraging words from special guests, enjoyed videos, laughed at SOL jokes from our 3rd graders, and were entertained by our amazing 3rd Grade Step Team.

Our 3rd grade teachers definitely showed out with an awesome performance, and the Staff + Student Dance-Off was absolutely LIT! 🔥

A special shoutout to our principal for being a true team player for dressing up and getting on stage to dance with our students! 💙 We had an amazing time building excitement and confidence for our students as they get ready to shine!

We harvested 1.29 pounds of green onions and gave to the cafeteria this morning. It was sweet. The staff went straight to washing them, chopping them and adding to today's lunches. Farm to table folks.

Decided there was more to harvest. More onions, sage and parsley.

Today, our SCA had the absolute pleasure of hosting Goodies with Grandparents at Newtown Elementary! 💙💛

It was heartwarming to see so many grandparents join their grandchildren for this special time together. The smiles, laughter, and sweet moments shared truly made the event unforgettable. We had a wonderful turnout, and it was clear how much it meant to our students to have their grandparents there.

A big thank you to our SCA members, staff, and families who helped make this event such a success. We love celebrating the special connections that make our school community so strong!

I'd like to thank everyone that has come out and supported Newtown's Garden program. The kids love working in the garden and the cafeteria loves using it for lunches. Friday May 8th will be our last day for the plant sale. Most plants that are not sold, will be composted. The sale will be from 3:45 to 5:00 PM. Cars can not enter the bus loop until dismissal is done. We would love to break the $300 raised mark.

As we head toward the end of the school year, the kindness at Newtown Elementary is not slowing down! 💙

We are so proud of our students who were recently recognized with the Caught Being Kind Award. These students have shown that small acts of kindness can make a big difference in our school community. Their positive attitudes, helping hands, and caring hearts truly shine!

Congratulations to all of our award recipients, you are what makes Newtown Elementary such a special place! Keep spreading kindness! 🌟

Due to the forecasted rain today, today's plant sale will be rescheduled to tomorrow. Same time, same place. It will also be the last day of the sale. All remaining plants will be either planted in the school garden or composted.

Today was a slow day for the Plant Sale supporting Newtown's garden. Hopefully tomorrow will make up for it. The sale is in the bus loop from 3:45 to 5:00PM. Small pots are $3, larger pots are $6.

I know we need the rain. But If the rain does not interfere tomorrow will be Day 2 of our Newtown Elementary Plant Sale. 4 inch pots are $3. 6 inch pots are $6.00. The plant sale is from 3:45 to 5:00. Cars can not enter the bus loop until dismissal if over. We have tomatoes, strawberries, mint, swiss chard, celery, black eyed susans jade and more.

We had some extra help with our Garden Club today. It was Service Project Day. Three parents and one Grandparent with his grandson showed up and helped with weeding and potting plants. An awesome time was had by all.
