4th–8th Grade Academic Summary
Our 4th through 8th grade program is designed to deepen critical thinking, strengthen communication skills, and build a strong biblical worldview. With an integrated and intentional approach, students are challenged to grow both academically and spiritually as they explore truth, beauty, and logic across the curriculum.
Language Arts
Grammar instruction is centered around Drawing Sentences, a sentence diagramming program that helps students internalize the structure of the English language. Grammar skills are reinforced through twice-weekly sentence editing and weekly grammar quizzes.
Spelling is personalized using the Spell to Write and Read (SWR) method, which dives deeply into the reasons behind each word’s spelling—exploring phonemic patterns, morphology, and etymology for a rich, lasting understanding.
Reading selections include a blend of classic and modern literature with noble themes and rich language. Students read 8 to 9 full-length books per year, analyzing key story elements like character, setting, plot, conflict, and resolution.
Writing spans four projects per quarter, including descriptive, narrative, persuasive, creative, and research-based assignments. Many writing projects connect with other subjects to strengthen cross-curricular thinking and real-world application.
Math
We use Saxon Math, a time-tested program that follows a spiral approach. Concepts are introduced in small increments and revisited frequently, ensuring deep understanding and long-term retention. Students build confidence through daily practice and cumulative review.
Bible
Our entire school studies the life and journeys of the Apostle Paul, focusing on Scripture memory, gospel-centered lessons, and weekly Bible quizzes. Middle school students also explore the geography of the Middle East to bring Paul’s journeys into sharper focus.
History
We use Biblioplan Year 3: The Early Modern Era, which presents world history through a biblical lens. Weekly history includes vocabulary and map quizzes that ensure students not only retain information but also understand the global and spiritual significance of the past.
Parent Partnership
We believe that the classroom is only half of the equation. Student success depends on a strong partnership between school and home. Parents play an essential role by supporting lessons during at-home days—reinforcing concepts, reviewing material, and guiding assignments. This hybrid model not only fosters academic growth but strengthens the parent-child relationship and creates a rich, unified learning experience.
