Lesson Plan for the Week of 6/9/25
Last Week of School!

2 & 3 Year Olds

The last week of school is upon us. It is amazing how fast the year went by! The 4-year-old group: Monday we will read "This Book is Upside Down! And make an upside-down cupcake. Tuesday we will read "Miranda's Beach Day" and make tied-dyed sea shells. Wednesday we will read "1,2,3 Make a S'more with me" and make a s'more snack. Thursday is Pirate Day and our final party day of the year. We will team up with the 2- and 3-year-old group for activities and make a Pirate Map. Friday is Ice Cream Day. We will read "Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten". We will play a game where we practice using descriptive words(cold, soft, sweet....)to let others know how ice cream feels to us. We will finish our handprint books. Thank you so very much for sharing your children with us the past year. We have truly enjoyed watching them mature and grow as the year sped along

Lesson Plan for the Week of 6/2/25
Theme: Western Week

2 & 3 Year Olds
Books: The Cowboy, Let’s Sing a Lullaby with the Brave Cowboy, The Cat in the Rhinestone Suit, Sixteen Cows, & The Gingerbread Cowboy.
Arts & Crafts: 2 Year Olds-Glittery Goldfish, Memory Magnet, Terrific Ts, Burger Cookie, & Seafoam Fun. 3 Year Olds-Desert Cactus, Beautiful Bovine, Giddy Up, Bandana Brands, & Gingerbread Cowboy Cookie.
Circle Time: Wheely Fun Project (Each child will have the first initial of their name written on a piece of posterboard. They will be provided with glue and wagon wheel pasta to trace the letter then decorate with the pasta. They will also receive some western theme stickers to decorate their paper); Ready for a Rodeo (For this transition activity, each child will give a stuffed animal a ride as they crawl across the floor on their hands and knees, trying not to let their ride fall on the floor); Saddle Bag Snack (Each child will receive a lunch size paper bag trimmed so it resembles a saddlebag. They will place a mixture of cereal pieces, pretzels, and M&Ms Minis candies in the bag); Cattle Round Up (I will pretend to be a cowboy rounding up my cattle in this transition activity. I will direct the kids to wander about the room pretending to be cows. With my lasso I will rope one of the cows (a kid), and that will be their signal to go transition to lunch); Getting in Shape (This game will reinforce shape recognition. To prepare I will use lengths of laundry line and packing tape to make a circle, triangle and square shape on the floor. A class supply of shape cutouts will be placed in a cowboy hat for each child to take turns reaching in , identifying the shape, then placing it in the corresponding rope shape on the floor); Who’s That Cowpoke (For this transition activity, the kids will be instructed to sit in a circle. I will lead the kids in reciting a chant, then I will name the child sitting next to me. Then I will help that child identify their neighbor. The group will be prompted to say “Howdy, (kid’s name)!) Next, we will recite the chant, inserting that child’s name. We will continue until everyone has received a “howdy!”); Boot Decorating (Each child will receive a tagboard cutout of a cowboy boot, colored pasta and glue to decorate their boot. When they are finished, a lollipop will be added for the spur); Rope ‘em In (A blow up steer will be placed in the middle of the room. Each child, in turn will have a chance to rope the steer using a hula hoop with a rope attached (lasso); Pony Ride Song (As the song “Pony Ride” is playing, the kids will walk, trot, and gallop around the room as the song directs, pretending to ride their cow ponies); Get Dressed! (A small group of kids will be asked and pantomime the actions of a cowhand getting dressed as I am singing a song before transitioning to lunch).

Weather Week
2 & 3 Year Olds
Books: Why Is It Hot?, Why Does It Rain?, Why Does The Wind Blow?, Why Does It Snow?
Arts & Crafts: 2 Year Olds-Cotton Candy, Tap & Splat, Dew On the Flowers, & Sunny Snack. 3 Year Olds- Sunny Study, Clouds in the Sky, Raindrops Are Falling, & Flashy Artwork.
Circle Time: Windy Whipped Cream Snack (I will show kids 2 cups of whipping cream. I will explain that when air is added to the cream, it will become whipped cream. The cream will be poured into a mixing bowl and then it will be whipped with an electric mixer until the liquid becomes fluffy whipped cream. The kids will be encouraged to observe the change that occurred and discuss what they saw. Each child will be given a spoonful of whipped cream and some fresh fruit slices to enjoy an airy treat); Freshly Picked Practice (Since it is strawberry picking season, we will play a strawberry picking game that is a letter review. A class supply of strawberries cut outs labeled with letters, will be placed in the circle time area. As I sing a song, the kids will walk around the strawberries. When the song ends, the kids will each pick up a strawberry. I will call on one child to state the letter on their strawberry before transitioning to lunch); Counting Clouds (On several pieces of blue construction paper will be glued a number of clouds. A corresponding number of number cards will be placed in a container. Each child, in turn, will pull a card, identify the number, then find the corresponding cloud card); Weather Prediction (For several days this week, the kids will predict what they think the weather will be tomorrow. We will discuss the results the following day); Drip, Drip, Drop (Kids will team up in groups of two. Each team will receive a jar filled 2/3rds with water and then topped off with shaving cream (clouds). After explaining how a cloud will fill up with moisture until it is saturated, then release the moisture as rain. The kids will then be instructed to use provided pipettes and colored water to fill their shaving cream clouds with water, observing when the tinted water starts to drip down below the shaving cream(rain)); Weather Wear (A container will be filled with different types of seasonal clothing. 3 bins labeled hot, cold, and rainy will be placed nearby. Each child, in turn, will choose a piece of clothing and decide what kind of weather you would wear it, then place it in the corresponding container); It’s Snow Secret (A resealable plastic bag will be filled with crushed ice, which will then be placed in a paper bag. I will challenge the kids to guess what is in the bag by using their senses. As the bag is passed around the circle, I will ask each child to grasp the top of the bag and describe how heavy it feels, then to shake the bag and describe how it sounds. Then they will be asked to open the top of the bag without peeking and smell the contents. Then the kids will be invited to each inside and feel what is inside); How Do Thunderstorms Make You Feel? (A 3 column graph will be labeled with a happy, sad and scared face. Each child will be given a personalized sticky note shaped like a raindrop and asked to vote on this topic. We will discuss the results).
The 4 year old group will participate in storybook week. All the skills we have learned over the year will be practiced this week (cutting, gluing, sequencing, patterns, counting, rhyming......) On Monday we will read "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" and design a Coconut Tree. On Tuesday we will read "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and make a beautiful butterfly and practice patterns and counting. Wednesday we will read "Pete the Cat and His 4 Groovy Buttons" and make a button bracelet. We will also practice addition and subtraction by rolling a die to complete Pete's shirt with a different set of buttons each game. Thursday we will read "The Grouchy Ladybug" and make a ladybug. We will talk about what makes us happy, sad, excited and grouchy. Friday we will read "10 Apples Up on Top" and using a photo of our face-put the letters of our name on apple stickers -up on top of our face:) Show and Tell on Friday will be favorite book. Important dates to note: Wednesday, June 4, at 6 pm there will be a short graduation ceremony for the 4 year old group-details to follow soon. The last day of the regular school year will be Friday, June 13th. Summer camp will begin on Monday, June 23rd.

Nursery Rhymes
2 & 3 Year Olds
Books: Baa Baa Black Sheep, Humpty Dumpty, Hey Di**le Di**le, Little Miss Muffett, Old Mother Hubbard.
Arts & Crafts: 2 Year Olds- Robin Eggs, Watermelon, June Calendar, Suncatcher Cup, & Patriotic Windsock. 3 Year Olds- Humpty Dumpty, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Jack Be Nimble, Little Miss Muffett, & Mini Blackbird Pie.
Circle Time; A Great Fall (Each child will receive a plastic egg and some blocks. The kids will be instructed to try and build a wall and balance their egg on it so it will not fall); Little Lumpty (The kids will get to re-enact Humpty Dumpty. A set of boards will be placed on the floor to represent the wall. I will invite a child to sit on the wall as I say a chant, inserting the child’s name. At the end of the chant, the child will pretend to fall from the wall just like Humpty Dumpty); Baa Baa Black Sheep Math (A foam die and a supply of bag of wool cards will be placed on the table. The class will be directed to say, “Baa Baa (child’s name), have you any wool?” Then that child will roll the die, count the dots, and reply “Yes sirs, yes sirs, (number) bags full!”); Scurry Around the Clock! (A hula hoop will be placed on the floor and labeled 1-12 to look like a clock. Each child, in turn, will be given a mouse puppet and instructed to listen as a strike a block. Then the child will be encouraged to scurry clockwise around the clock until the mouse has landed on the appropriate number); Mary Had a Little Lamb (A set of different color pictures of school houses will be placed on the table. Each child will receive a color lamb that corresponds to one of the school houses. After saying a rhyme where I insert a child’s name, they will then take their lamb and place it on the matching color school house); “_____” Be Nimble (A prop candle will be placed on the floor. I will say the Jack Be Nimble Rhyme, instead inserting a child’s name. That child will then jump over the candlestick as they transition to lunch); Shapely Flowers (One child will be given a basket containing several craft stick flowers programmed with shapes. The child will walk around the room as I lead the kids in singing a song. When the song ends, the child will be prompted to drop a flower in front of the nearest classmate’s lap. The classmate displays the flower and identifies the shape; then sets the flower aside and the two kids switch places); Little Miss Muffett (While wearing a spider puppet, I will recite the rhyme and crawl the spider over to a child. That child will pretend to be scared and run away as they transition to lunch); Ps Porridge Hot (A large metal pot and a class supply of letters will be presented to the group. Each child will receive a letter card. After saying the rhyme, I will insert a different letter in the rhyme that rhymes with P, and the child with that letter will attach it to the pot and use a spoon to pretend to stir porridge); Patty Cake (Each child will receive a letter card with a letter that rhymes with P. Each child, in turn, will be called up and asked to state the letter. We will then do patty cake with our hands, inserting the letter on their card).
The 4 year-old group will participate in traditional stories which have been adapted to be a little more child friendly. The stories will be presented on a flannel board. On Monday we will read "Little Red Ridinghood". This story helps with the idea of stranger danger. We will decorate a cookie for grandma and practice same and different and patterns. On Tuesday we will read "The Hare and Tortoise" which enforces just doing your best. We will sequence the race-what happened 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. I will present the group with a series of questions about the story(i.e. which character did his best-the hare or tortoise) and the group will decide which character best fits the question. Wednesday we will read "The Three Pigs" and talk about staying safe and making good choices. We will the sequence the story-which pig lived in which house and what was it made of. Thursday we will read "The Little Red Hen" and talk about helping others. After reading the story we will play a game with cards showing animal characters. The group will decide if that animal was in the story or not. Friday we will read "The Three Bears" and practice the idea of small, medium and large. Show and Tell on Friday will be your favorite stuffed animal.

Lesson Plan for the Week of 5/5/25
Letter of the Week: Z
2 & 3 Year Olds
Books: Zoo Looking, Zoomer, Put Me in the Zoo, My School’s a Zoo, & Zoe and her Zebra.
Arts & Crafts: 2 Year Olds- Fiesta Ring, Slice of Summer, Sunflower Centerpiece, Tall Tulips, & With All My Heart. 3 Year Olds- Zig Zag, Zebra, June Calendar, Scrub a Berry, & Handprint Vase.
Circle Time: Mystery Bag (This Week the mystery bag will be filled with zoo animals); Zookeeper zookeeper (A class supply of key cutouts will be labeled with letters, labeling only one key with the letter Z. One child will be the zookeeper, the rest will be seated in a circle with a key placed facedown. To begin, I will say, “The zookeeper lost his key and can’t unlock the zoo!” We will recite a rhyme, then the zookeeper will name three classmates. In turn, those classmates will hold up their key for identification. If there is a Z, the key belongs to the zookeeper. If there isn’t, the game continues until the Z key is found); Zoo Rhyming (The kids will be given clues of words that rhyme with zoo); Follow “Z” Road (A large letter Z will be made with tape on the floor. Each child will take a car and trace the letter Z by driving the car on it); Make a Z (Each child will receive a copy of a hollow capital Z, craft sticks and glue. They will then use the glue to make a letter Z); Colorful Spill A supply of pom-poms in several different colors will be gathered, along with a supply of lunch bags with color words in matching colors. To begin, we will review each color word and its color. Three kids will receive a bag. After reciting a rhyme, I will spill the pom-poms onto the floor. The kids holding the bag will pick up pom-poms of the same color on their bag); Catching some Zs (I will hold up a letter card. If it is Z, the kids will pretend to sleep. If it is a different letter, they will stay awake); Scout it Out (Several beehive mats with different letters will be posted around the room. I will explain that when a beehive is overcrowded, the queen bee and many worker bees leave as a swarm and several scouts look for a new hive. After finding one, the scouts return and do a special dance to let the other bees know. With a group of three, I will designate a scout to find a hive with a specific letter. When they find it, the child will come back to their group, do a little dance, then lead the rest of their team to the hive); Zip zap zero! (A tray with 5 small manipulatives and a towel will be shown to the kids. I will explain I need their help to perform a magic trick to make the manipulatives disappear one by one until there are zero manipulatives. I will cover the tray with the towel, put a hand under it and secretly grab a manipulative. I will have the kids say some magic words and remove the towel. We will count the remaining manipulatives. We will continue in this manner until there are zero manipulatives); Clapping for Letters (Two letter cards will be displayed to the group. I will sing a song, inserting in the song one letter from a displayed card. I will follow up the song by asking a volunteer to point to the named latter).
The 4's are zipping into letter Z this week! Hard to believe, but we have made it to the end of the alphabet! On Monday, we will visit the letter Z mystery bag, play our letter Z picture card guessing game and turn uppercase Z into a zebra. Tuesday we will complete our May calendar. Wednesday we will make colorful Zinnias using forks dipped in paint and on Thursday we will complete our last following directions page and create a Zig-Zag design. Our last puppet of the year will be Zippy Zebra and show and tell will be child's choice. Featured books: "Every So Often A Zebra Has Spots"; "Zoom! Zoom! Zoom! I'm Off To The Moon"; and "Zoe Zebra Loses Her Z". We will also practice subtraction by playing the zero game and we will pretend to be Zookeepers as we search around the classroom to find the missing Z cards and return them to the zoo.

Arts & Crafts: 2 Year Olds- Hatching Baby Chicks, Springtime Tulip Bouquet, Cracked Egg, Mixing Colors, Shape Train. 3 Year Olds- Cozy Cricket Cottage, So Many Raindrops, …Bring May Flowers, Berry Basket, Beautiful Blooms.
Circle Time: Mystery Bag-This week the mystery bag will have yellow yarn in it. Each child will have a chance to reach inside and feel the contents and try to guess what it is); Pretty Little Butterfly (Each child will receive a butterfly puppet of a certain color. As I sing the song I will call out a color, and those kids with that color will stand up and fly their butterfly); Yolks (A class supply of craft foam made to look like eggs with yolk in the middle will be labeled with upper or lower case Y. Each child, in turn, will choose a yolk, identify as upper or lower case Y, then place it on the corresponding plate); Seed, seed, sprout (The kids will sit in a circle and will be instructed to curl up, pretending to be a seed in the ground. One child will be given a watering can and instructed to walk around the circle, tapping each child’s head saying “seed”. They will choose a child and say “sprout”, pretending to water that child. The chosen child will then sprout out of the ground and become the next person to hold the watering can); Yellow on Y (Each child will receive a hollow upper and lower case Y, glue, and scraps of yellow paper to decorate the paper); Yummy Foods (A chart will be displayed showing 3 different foods. Each child will receive a personalized sticky note to vote on which food they think is yummy); Yellow Detectives (A class supply of yellow objects will be hidden around the room. A yellow box will be placed on the table. Each child, in turn, will be instructed to search the room for a yellow object to place in the yellow box); Face up or Face down? (A two column graph will be placed on the wall. Each child, in turn, will hold up a paper butterfly and let it drop to the floor, noticing how it lands. The child will mark on the graph how their butterfly landed. We will compare the results once everyone has played); If you see a Y, make a Y (I will show a letter card. If it is Y, the kids will stand up and use their body to make a letter Y. If it is a different letter, they will yawn and pretend to fall asleep); Yummy or Yucky? A class supply of plastic eggs will have a yellow or green circle pom pom (yolk), and be placed in an egg carton. Each child, in turn, will choose an egg and open it. If the yolk is yellow, the group will say, “Yummy Yolk!”. If the yolk is green, the group will say “Yucky yolk!”).
The 4-year-old group will participate in Y activities this week. On Monday we will visit the mystery bag and play our picture card guessing game for letter Y. We will cover letter Y with all things yellow. We will also make a project for Earth Day. On Tuesday we will participate in a yummy/yucky taste test. We will taste the following items: lemonade, banana, waffle, yogurt and pineapple. Each child will then decide if the item was yummy or if it was yucky. Wednesday the group will be painting using yogurt. Each child will decide it they would like to fingerpaint or if they would like to use a brush. Thursday we will complete our following directions page and stamp yellow letter Y shapes onto black paper. Friday our puppet will be Yodeling Yak and show and tell will be something yellow. Featured books: "Yawn"; "Yummy Yucky"; "Grandmas Yarn"; and "Yay, You!". Miss Leigh Ann will work with the class on Monday this week.

Books: Happy Easter From the Crayons, Where’s My Easter Basket, Elmo’s Easter Egg Surprise, Is This Easter?, & Dino Easter.
Arts & Crafts: Cookie decorating for all ages, 2 Year Olds-Rainbow Racers, Rain on the Flowers, Magic Ovals, Bunny Face. 3 Year Olds- Newt, Noodle Necklace, Wiggle Worms & Magic Wands.
Circle Time: Where is Chickie? (A class supply of plastic eggs will be placed in a basket. One yellow pom pom will be secretly placed in one of the eggs. As I sing a song, the basket will be passed around. When the song is finished, the child with the basket will open up an egg. If the chick is in the egg, the kids will be prompted to say, “peep, peep, peep!” Then the chick will be rehidden in an egg to play another round. If the chick is not in the egg, the kids will continue singing and opening eggs until the chick is found); How Many Bunnies are Hiding Under the Egg (5 small toy bunnies and half a plastic egg will be placed on the table. 2 kids will be called up and asked to count the bunnies. I will then hide some of the bunnies under the egg and ask the kids to figure out how many bunnies are hiding under the egg); A Tisket A Tasket (A class supply of eggs will be placed in a Easter style basket. One child will be asked to walk around the circle as we sing a song. At the end of the song, the child will give an egg to the person they are standing behind. That child will open the egg and identify the letter hidden in it); Jelly Bean Fun (Enlarged drawings of jelly beans in several different colors will be placed on the floor. Two small bags, one containing pictures of body parts and the other with corresponding pictures of color jelly beans will be placed on the table. Each child, in turn, will pull a body part card while I pull a color card. That child will then place the body part they pulled on the jelly bean color I pulled); Eggs in My Basket (Each child will receive a plastic egg. An Easter basket will be placed on the table. I will sing a song, inserting a color word. At the end of the song, whoever is holding that color egg will place it in the basket); Feed the Bunny (A paper bag will be decorated so it resembles a rabbit. A class supply of carrot cards will be labeled with letters and placed in a bin filled with rice so they stay standing up. Each child, in turn will select a carrot card, identify the letter, then “feed” the bunny through the hole where it’s mouth is); Egg Hunt (On our party day, the kids will go on an egg hunt. They will be instructed to only find the eggs with their name on it); Jelly Bean Estimation (A clear jar will be filled with up to 10 jelly beans. The jar will be passed around for each kid to make a guess how many jelly beans are in the jar. Everyone’s guesses will be recorded, then after lunch, I will open the jar and count how many jelly beans were in the jar); Bunny Trail Relay (Plastic eggs will be placed in two separate containers. 2 baskets will be placed a distance away from the eggs. The kids will be formed in 2 groups. Each group line will be near a different container of eggs. On my signal, the first child in each line takes an egg and hops to the basket. They put the egg in the basket and hop back to the line, and tags the next player, then going to the end of the line. Play continues until all the eggs are in each basket); Don’t Step on the Eggs! (Plastic eggs will be placed on the carpet. The kids will form a circle around the eggs. Each child, in turn, will be instructed to walk through the eggs without stepping on them as they transition to lunch).
The 4-year-old group will spend the week participating in spring and easter crafts and activities. On Monday, we will read "Pete The Cat's Big Easter Adventure" and finish our homework project. We will also put together a Peeps S'mores treat to make at home. Tuesday we will read "Happy Easter Mouse" and use shaving creme and food coloring to make a dip and scrape Easter Egg(the children will drip drop food coloring onto a pile of shaving creme and swirl slightly. They will then press a cardstock shaped egg into the mixture. After removing the egg from the mixture, we will let it dry and then scrape off the remaining shaving creme. Wednesday we will read "Duck Rabbit!" and make our own Duck Rabbit. Thursday will be our Spring Party. Please bring 12 filled eggs for our egg hunt(bringing the eggs before Thursday would be very helpful) and your party supply. We will team up with the 2- and 3-year-old groups for a fun filled day. We will make applesauce bunnies during arts and crafts. Friday we will read "The Night Before Easter" and make sponge painted bunnies. During the week we will also work on spacial recognition by playing-Where is Peter Rabbit Hiding? A set of watering cans numbered 1-9 will be placed in the pocket chart in 3 rows. While the children are covering their eyes, I will place Peter somewhere near one of the cans. Each child will have a turn describing where Peter is......using words such as top, bottom, middle, left, right-in row # 1 or 2 or 3.

Circle Time: Mystery Bag (This week the Mystery Bag will be filled with items whose names begin with W); Herman the Worm (While I am wearing a worm puppet, I will recite the chant, inserting a child’s name. When a child hears their name and is “eaten” by Herman the worm, they will transition to lunch); Found a Worm (I will recite a rhyme, handing a rubber worm to a child. At the end of the rhyme, they will be prompted to wiggle their worm on top of a picture card whose name begins with W, and encouraged to say what is on the picture card); Ride the Wave (A capital W will be placed on the table. Each child, in turn, will receive a toy whale to trace the letter W as if the whale were riding a wave); Make a W (Each child will receive a hollow capital W, glue and craft sticks to make a letter W); Watermelon Sort (After discussing the difference between letters and numbers, each child, in turn, will choose a watermelon card, identify if it is labeled with a letter or number, then place it in the corresponding basket); Wild or Tame (After discussing the difference between wild and tame animals, I will show the kids a picture card. If is a picture of a wild animal, the kids will make a sign language W. If is a picture of a tame animal, they will stay still); How Many segments? (After showing the kids a picture of a worm, pointing out that a worm is made of many segments, I will draw an outline of a worm on the white board. Each child, in turn, will roll a die, count the dots, then draw that many segments on the worm); Wave your wand (I will show the kids a letter card. If it is W, they will wave a wand that has been provided. If it is a different letter, they will leave their wands on the table); Window Wand (A class supply of letter cards will be placed on the walls of the classroom. Each child, in turn, will receive a wand with a window in it and a letter placed on it. They must use their wand to locate the matching letter on the wall).
The 4-year-old group: This week we will focus on letter Ww. On Monday we will glue Wagon Wheel Pasta to uppercase W, play our letter W card guessing game and visit the mystery bag. We will make our April Calendar. Tuesday the group will create a lovely spring wreath and on Wednesday we will paint using watercolors. Thursday we will complete our following directions page and design a windy day for kites (each kite will have a letter of our name). Friday our puppet will be Wacky Walrus and show and tell will be something wonderful. Happy 5th Birthday to Rowan on Friday!
