This one’s for the moms. 💜
As we celebrate 40 years of Music in Motion, it felt important to recognize the people who have been beside our dancers every step of the way.
The moms who spend countless hours in carlines, rush from work to class, keep track of shoes, tights, recital details, and schedules, and somehow make it all work week after week. The moms who listen to recital music on repeat, help calm nerves, celebrate victories, and offer encouragement after disappointments.
Dance may be what brings us together, but family has always been at the heart of Music in Motion.
Looking through these photos, I was reminded that every dancer’s story is connected to someone who helped make it possible. The performances, the friendships, the milestones, the confidence gained along the way — none of it happens alone.
As a mom myself, I understand a little more each year how quickly the seasons pass. One day you’re helping them find the right classroom, and before you know it, they’re running ahead to meet friends, taking ownership of their experience, and creating memories that will stay with them long after they leave the studio.
To all of the moms, grandmothers, stepmoms, foster moms, aunts, and mother figures who have helped shape this community over the last 40 years: thank you.
This anniversary belongs to you, too.

One of the special treats of our 40th Anniversary Recital will be seeing Music in Motion alumni return to the stage together again. 💜
This piece has been rehearsed throughout the spring, and getting to watch former dancers step back into the studio and reconnect through movement has been incredibly meaningful. Life may look different now than it did during their years at MIM, but the connection, the musicality, and the shared history all come rushing back so naturally.
I also had the chance to preview the projection work created for this piece by one of our incredibly talented staff members this week… and I cried. Not out of sadness, but from the joy of seeing this history, this community, and the life that has been built here over the last 40 years reflected back so beautifully.
I truly cannot wait for our audience to experience this piece and celebrate these legacy dancers with us on stage. Love, Ms. Lauren

Forty years of Music in Motion means generations of friendships, carpools, recital weekends, costume changes, inside jokes, and siblings growing up side by side.
From the very beginning, this studio has always been deeply family-oriented. Not just in the sense that parents are involved, but in the way relationships are built here over years and often decades. Younger siblings grow up in the lobby watching classes before it’s finally their turn. Families spend entire seasons moving in and out of these rooms together. Dancers become honorary cousins, older students become role models, and teachers often watch children grow from toddler classes all the way into adulthood.
One of the most meaningful parts of this beach shoot was capturing those connections. Some of these dancers have spent nearly their entire childhoods together. Others are just beginning their journey. But all of them are part of a much bigger story that stretches across generations of shared experiences and memories.
Watching siblings grow up in the same studio, often years apart but somehow having such similar experiences, is one of the quiet privileges of this work. 📸: .photo

🚨Dress rehearsal for our 40th Anniversary Spring Recital is Friday, May 29th! Be sure to check the Recital Parent Portal on our website to see what time your dancer should arrive.
💃Dancers should arrive to dress rehearsal in fitted dance attire along with the shoes required for their dances. This is a leotard rehearsal, NOT a full costume rehearsal.
💄Dress rehearsal is a fantastic time to practice your dancer’s hair and makeup before the big day! Hair and makeup tutorials are included in the Recital Parent Portal.
