Today we remember and honor the men and women who lost their lives while serving in the United States Armed Forces. We hope everyone takes a moment today to remember the lives behind the holiday and the families who continue to carry that loss.

Are you smarter than a fifth grader? Let's find out! Answer in 3... 2... 1...

The correct answer is D) 9/12!

Equivalent fractions may use different numbers, but they represent the same portion or amount. The key is to find the common denominated. In this case, if you divide both 9 and 12 by 3, you get 3/4, making the two fractions equivalent.

One of the most common questions students ask is whether they should take the SAT or the ACT. The truth is that neither test is “better” overall—it depends on the student’s strengths, testing style, and comfort level.

Some students prefer the SAT’s slower pacing and heavier focus on reading and problem-solving, while others do better with the ACT’s faster pace and more straightforward question style. The ACT also includes a dedicated science section, which can work well for some students and feel stressful for others.

The best way to decide is often to take a practice test for both and compare not just the scores, but how each test felt. Confidence, pacing, and endurance all matter. The goal is to choose the test that gives students the best opportunity to show what they know.

Finally, you don't need to worry about whether your prospective colleges require one over the other. Every accredited university and college in the U.S. that considers standardized test scores accepts both the SAT and ACT equally.

A common myth is that it becomes impossible—or dramatically harder—to learn a new language after childhood. While kids often seem to pick up languages quickly, a big part of that comes from immersion and necessity. Children surrounded by a language every day have constant opportunities (and pressure) to practice, listen, adapt, and communicate.

Adults can learn languages very effectively too, especially when they regularly use the language in meaningful ways. That’s why people often make rapid progress when living abroad or consistently practicing with others. Language learning has much more to do with exposure, repetition, and motivation than simply age.

In other words: if you’ve ever wanted to learn another language, you haven’t “missed your chance.” Learning can happen at any stage of life, and curiosity doesn’t come with an expiration date!

It's Wednesday, and today's word is "charlatan."

A charlatan is someone who falsely claims to have special knowledge or skills, usually in order to gain trust, money, or attention. The word is often used to describe frauds, impostors, or people pretending to be experts. It’s especially useful when "fake" or "phony" doesn’t quite capture the full meaning.

A bad test grade can feel overwhelming for students, especially when they’ve worked hard or expected a different outcome. The first step is to avoid treating the grade like a final judgment. One test is feedback, not a definition of ability.

After emotions settle a bit, help your child look at what actually happened. Were they rushing? Struggling with certain concepts? Studying in a way that didn’t match the material? Focusing on the process instead of just the score helps students learn how to improve instead of shutting down.

Most importantly, remind them that setbacks are part of learning. A calm reset, a clear plan, and consistent support go much further than panic or pressure.

"Your" and "you're" are one of the most common grammar mix-ups, but the difference is actually pretty straightforward. "Your" is used to show possession, like when something belongs to you. "You're," on the other hand, is a contraction for "you are."

A simple way to check is to try swapping in "you are" in the sentence. If it still makes sense, then "you're" is the correct choice. If it doesn’t, "your" is probably what you need.

At some point, most students hit a stretch where school feels harder than it used to. It might be a new concept that isn’t clicking, a drop in confidence, or just the challenge of keeping up with everything at once.

That’s where individualized support can make a real difference. One-on-one tutoring gives students the chance to slow down, ask questions, and build skills in a way that actually makes sense to them. With the right support from our tutors, students start to feel more confident, more capable, and more in control of their learning.

Testing season is almost here! SOLs, AP exams, and end-of-year assessments tend to stack up quickly, and it’s easy for stress to build.

The best approach isn’t cramming but rather consistency. Reviewing a little each day, getting enough sleep, and sticking to familiar routines can make a big difference in how students feel and perform.
