I DIDN’T SHOOT AS WELL AS I’D LIKE TO ADMIT.
New rifle. New suppressor system. Hot day. And I deliberately pushed the cardio—then worked through multiple shooting positions while the heart rate was up and the body was getting tired.
The result?
I wasn't as good as I wanted to be.
Good.
Because this is the work.
It’s easy to look competent when you’re comfortable. Fresh body. Controlled pace. Familiar equipment. Perfect position.
But that’s not where you discover the truth.
You discover it when you’re hot, tired, breathing hard, adapting to unfamiliar equipment, changing positions, and still demanding precision from yourself.
After more than 50 years of training, I still believe this:
You don’t practice to prove how good you are.
You practice to discover where you’re not good enough—yet.
There were things I liked today. There were things I absolutely didn’t.
So I’ll make the adjustments, put in the repetitions, and go back to work.
No ego. No excuses. No pretending.
Find the weakness. Do the work. Test it under pressure. Repeat.
That’s how skill is built.
That’s how confidence is earned.
And that process never ends. 👊🔥
