Merry Christmas! Christmas is an annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ, observed primarily on December 25. Observances also occur throughout the month of January for example in some Eastern Orthodox and Armenian churches.
The first official mention of December 25 as a holiday honoring Jesus' birthday appears in an early Roman calendar from AD 336. This corresponds to the date of the winter solstice on the Roman calendar.
