Congratulations to the three individuals recognized at last night's ceremony alongside our graduates:

Dennis Matheis, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sentara Health , delivered the commencement keynote address. In recognition of his exceptional leadership and enduring commitment to healthcare, education, and community partnership, Batten University conferred upon him the honorary degree of Doctor of Science, honoris causa.

Dr. Angela Taylor and Dr. Cynthia Banks, the College's retiring President and Dean of Academic Affairs (respectively), each received emerita status in recognition of their distinguished service and lasting contributions to Sentara College of Health Sciences.

Meet the Dean of the Sentara College of Health Sciences! Dr. Megan Hunsinger is from Danville, Pennsylvania, with a background in Exercise Science and Educational Leadership. The team at Batten University has been hard at work moving the College's historical archives into their new home! Located on the second floor of Godwin Hall, our new archives room will serve as a permanent record of the Sentara College of Health Sciences' storied past. 💙

In just two weeks, Batten University will celebrate the Sentara College of Health Sciences Class of 2026 by hosting the College's commencement ceremony for the first time since our historic integration. The Aug. 13 ceremony will honor 24 graduates receiving Master of Science in Nursing (Entry to Nursing Practice) and RN-to-BSN degrees. The University will also award one honorary degree, CEO Dennis Matheis of Sentara Health , and two emerita statuses, Drs. Angela Taylor and Cynthia Banks, during the ceremony. We invite the entire Marlin community to celebrate this milestone with us via livestream (link available soon).
