I’ve learned the hard way that you can’t pour from a cup that’s full of holes. . .

For years, I played the "Superwoman" game . . . Supermom, Superworker, "all the things to everyone", the one who held it all together while burning to the ground behind the scenes. It took becoming a widow just days before my 40th birthday to realize that no one was coming to rescue me. I had to be the one to repair what had been neglected, patch the holes, and finally start pouring some of that care back into myself.

We’re taught that putting ourselves first is selfish. I’m here to tell you it’s actually self-preservation. It’s the difference between living in survival mode and actually living.
