Lisa Elliott is an exceptionally hardworking and dedicated educator who puts the needs of students first. She brings dedication, enthusiasm, and purpose to her classroom each day, creating engaging lessons that challenge students to think critically, explain their reasoning, and take ownership of their learning. Through the intentional use of Kaplan strategies and higher-level questioning, she pushes students beyond what they think they can accomplish. She also encourages children to set goals, celebrates their progress, and builds their confidence by creating a classroom where they feel valued, supported, and capable of success. She generously gives her time to support after-school activities, assist colleagues, and lend a helping hand whenever needed. Perhaps the most powerful evidence of her influence is the number of former students who continue to return to visit her. Ms. Elliott embodies the purpose of the I Make A Difference Award by turning her dedication into action and leaving a lasting impression on those around her.

From the very first week of school, Darla Velic demonstrated her priority of student-centered practices. She came to the bookroom to select appropriate aligned texts to start the year with small group instruction. She is proactive with understanding student needs by analyzing data, and even helped show me how to run specific standards based reports to support instruction.
She plans engaging and memorable lessons for students that align to the standards. She has been so eager to open her classroom, and to collaborate to observe and pinpoint student misconceptions, allowing us to use that insight to guide future planning. It was so exciting to visit the classroom and see the engagement and collaboration that she has already fostered with her students.
Through every interaction, she brings warmth, positivity, and an eagerness to work together. Her friendly and collaborative nature, as well as her devotion to putting students first makes a difference!

We are so excited to welcome Michelle, our brand-new reading specialist, to Salem ES!
Michelle has quickly become someone who is ready to jump in wherever she is needed. Whether she is supporting a teacher, working alongside students, or helping find strategies to meet a student’s needs, Michelle brings a positive and happy attitude to everything she does.
Her role is about more than supporting students with reading. Michelle works alongside our teachers, helping them find effective ways to support their students and strengthen learning in the classroom. Her willingness to collaborate, encourage, and lend a hand makes her a wonderful addition to our Salem ES family.
We are grateful to have Michelle on our team and excited to see the difference she will make as she helps our teachers and students grow, learn, and succeed together!

While a familiar face at Salem, Dawn has moved into a new role in the main office as our registrar. Through observation alone, I quickly realized what an EXHAUSTING job it is, and Dawn has handled each day with consummate aplomb. Whether it’s coming in early and staying late daily to climb out of the piles of files (blatantly ignoring the admin teams’ directions to GO HOME, by the way), or exploring creative methods to cut through the red tape that keeps students in difficult situations from easily enrolling, Dawn approaches each moment of a crazy summer with a can-do attitude and an incredible sense of humor. Ms. Agnese, YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
