Congratulations to Ms.Schappell for being selected as a Citywide Teacher of the Year Finalist 👏🏼❤️🖤🎨

✨ As we wrap up our 2027 Citywide Teacher of the Year finalist celebrations, we’re proud to recognize Melissa Schappell, art teacher at the Visual and Performing Arts Academy (VPAA) at Salem High School.

Melissa helps students make meaningful artistic and interdisciplinary connections, empowering them to think critically, take creative risks, and develop their unique artistic voice. From guiding major creative projects such as Salem’s Timbaland Way Day parade float to organizing the annual Raku-B-Que art show that supports student learning, she continually expands opportunities for young artists both in and beyond the classroom.
