WBMS Cross Country is gearing up for an exciting season, and we are looking for runners in grades 6th–8th to join the team! Whether you are an experienced runner or just looking to try something new, Cross Country is a great way to build endurance, make friends, and represent WBMS!

📍 First Practice: Thursday, July 23 at 5:00 PM
📍 Meet at the track entrance at WBHS
📍 Athletes must have a current VHSL physical on file

Teacher Appreciation Week is coming up, and we need your help to make it extra special for our amazing teachers!

Monday, May 4th – We will be treating our teachers to a Fiesta Luncheon 🌮
We are looking for donations of food, drinks, and desserts to make this a fun and festive meal.

Thursday, May 7th – We will host a Trail Mix Bar 🥨🍫
We need a variety of individually packaged snacks and mix-ins (nuts, pretzels, chocolate, dried fruit, etc.).

💪 A.V.O.I.D. Personal Self-Defense Class + Community Giving Opportunity 💪

William Byrd Middle School & High School girls and female staff are invited to join us for an A.V.O.I.D. Personal Self-Defense Class — focused on confidence, awareness, and practical self-protection skills in a positive, supportive environment.

📍 WBHS Wrestling Gym

💙 Supporting the Lampstand Foundation
As part of this event, we are also asking each middle school participant (student or staff) to bring one (1) household item to donate.
Examples include:
• Toilet paper
• Paper towels
• Napkins
• Tissues

About the Lampstand Foundation:
Lampstand Foundation is a local nonprofit that supports women and families affected by domestic violence. They provide safe housing, advocacy, resources, and support to help survivors rebuild their lives with dignity, safety, and hope.

This is a simple way for our students to learn that being strong also means helping others.

Virtual learning day tomorrow! 💻
Tomorrow will be B day!
If you need meals, there are 3 locations to pick them up. 🍱

VDOT crews continue to make progress clearing neighborhood streets, however many roads are still snow covered and difficult for our school buses to traverse.

Therefore, Roanoke County Public Schools students will have a VIRTUAL LEARNING DAY FOR THURSDAY, JAN 29. Elementary students should complete the packet for January 29. Middle and high school students should log into Canvas for their assignments under the B day schedule.

Parents wishing to pick up school meals can do so at any one of three pickup locations from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.:
Herman L. Horn Elementary (1001 Ruddell Road, Vinton)
Oak Grove Elementary (5005 Grandin Road Extension, Roanoke)
RCPS Central Office (5937 Cove Road, Roanoke)

Distribution of meals (two breakfast and two lunch meals) will be first come, first served from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. Those students receiving free and reduced meals or students attending CEP schools will receive meals at no cost. All other students will be charged the normal rate.

The community meeting about the dangers of smartphones and kids at Mount Pleasant Elementary scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed. A new date will be announced soon.
Also, the all-county choir concert at Northside High School tomorrow night has been cancelled.

Due to wintry conditions, Roanoke County Public Schools will be closed tomorrow (Monday, Jan. 26). All school offices and central office also will be closed. Be safe!
