🌬️ Taking Science Out of the Classroom!

Last week, our fifth grade science classes turned the school courtyard into a living laboratory! Instead of just reading about aerodynamics in a book, students headed outside to track how wind actually moves through our own backyard. 🏃‍♂️💨

It was a beautiful day for some "human wind tunnel" observations! By walking the grounds and using simple tools to catch the breeze, students discovered how our school’s architecture—from the corners of the buildings to the open archways—completely changes the way air flows.

Celebrating Reading! 📖🌟

Huge thanks to Jen Hillman from Arkansas PBS for visiting our fourth grade classrooms last week! She read Dr. Seuss’s "Oh, The Places You’ll Go!" and brought some fantastic goodies for the students and teachers. 🎒✏️

It was the perfect kickoff for Read Across America Week and our March Fiction Reading Challenge. Let the reading begin! 📚

✨FMIS March Character Assembly ☘️

This month, we focused on the power of Synergy and Cooperation—learning that we can achieve so much more when we work together and value each other's strengths! 💪🤝

A huge congratulations to our March Character Students for leading by example and showing us what true teamwork looks like: Sadie Parker, Peyton Gentry-Gaddis, Lily Guilliams, Wrenarose Holliman, Jace Wooley, and Molly Dunn. Way to go, Eagles! ❤️🦅

We were honored to welcome a very special guest: our newly appointed Vilonia High School Head Football Coach, Kyle Russell! He didn’t come alone—he brought along standout student-athletes Jeremy Andrews and Jett Sanson to share some inspiration on how cooperation wins games both on and off the field. 👍

The highlight of the morning was the high-stakes Cup Stack Relay, where our special guests and character students faced off in a test of coordination and speed. Each team member jumped rope ten times to collect a stack of cups before racing back to their teammates to build the tallest tower possible. This challenge required perfect harmony and a steady hand, providing a thrilling display of communication and persistence as the clock ticked down! ⏰

It was a battle of speed, coordination, and steady hands! While the competition was fierce, Sixth Grade brought the ultimate synergy and took home the win! 🏆

We spent the month of February participating in The Great Kindness Challenge, and it was incredible to see our FMIS family come together to lift one another up. While the official challenge has wrapped, the habits our students built are here to stay. 🤝

At FMIS, we believe that the smallest acts can make the biggest difference. We asked our students and staff what kindness means to them, and their answers warmed our hearts. From a simple smile in the hallway to helping a friend in need, see how our community is making kindness matter every single day. ❤️🦅

On Monday, our fourth grade literacy students had an incredible learning experience as they visited our local veterans museum! 🇺🇸

Students toured the museum, explored exhibits, and gathered important information to use in an upcoming informational writing assignment. They practiced asking thoughtful questions, taking notes, and observing details — all skills strong writers use when researching a topic.

It was meaningful for our students to learn about the sacrifices and service of our veterans while connecting real-world experiences to what we’re studying in the classroom. Experiences like this bring literacy to life!

We are so thankful to the museum staff and to our veterans who have served our country. ❤️

🌟 FMIS February Character Assembly! 🌟

This month, we celebrated students who lead with Kindness and practice the habit Seek First to Understand—showing empathy, patience, and respect for others every day. 🤝

We also recognized our January Character Students for demonstrating Grit—persevering through challenges and giving their best effort even when things get tough. Way to go! 💪

Congratulations to our January and February Character Students:

Hudson Tags, Lucy May, Isaac Hamilton, Catherine Donahoe, Haven Tharp, Hannie Doan, Reign Paranhos, Cannen Browning, Kylin Grady, Parker Strickland, Will Cromwell, Harper Roller

Our special guest was Ms. Nicole Courson from Summit Church in Vilonia, who shared an inspiring message about listening with empathy, understanding others’ perspectives, and choosing kindness in all situations. 🌟

Students then took on the Hoop Hop Showdown! Teams worked together to move a basketball from the start line to the turnaround cone and back using hula hoops. Players could only pass the ball while standing inside a hoop, while teammates moved empty hoops forward to create a path. The challenge required communication, planning, persistence, and teamwork—perfectly reinforcing Kindness, Grit, and the habit Seek First to Understand. If the ball was dropped, teams regrouped and tried again, proving that encouragement and cooperation make all the difference. 🏀🔥

🏆 Fourth Grade brought the energy and teamwork and won the game!
