Mayor Frank Sippel Announces September Community Events

Mayor Frank Sippel announced to residents and visitors that Lower Township is looking ahead to a busy September, with several community events and important programs planned. Township officials encourage the community to take advantage of the many opportunities taking place throughout the month.

The Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum will host its annual Air Fest from September 3, 2026 through September 6, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 6p.m. each day. The event offers something for aviation and history enthusiasts and families alike, and residents and visitors are encouraged to come out and enjoy the festivities.

Lower Township will hold its annual September 11 Remembrance Ceremony on Friday, September 11, 2026 at 6 p.m. at the Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum, located within the Cape May County Airport complex. The ceremony will provide the community with an opportunity to come together to remember and honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, as well as the first responders, members of the military, and all those who have made sacrifices in the years since. Township officials invite residents and visitors to attend as the community pauses to remember this solemn day in our nation's history.

Lower Township's Family Fun Night will take place on Friday, September 18, 2026 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Clem Mulligan Field in Villas. This free family event will feature live music, bounce houses, face painting, foam dance party and much more. The evening will conclude with a spectacular drone show.

Lower Township officials, the Lower Township Police Department, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will host a fraud prevention presentation on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at 6 p.m. at the Townbank Fire Department in North Cape May. Approximately 15 million people were victims of scams last year, resulting in more than $15.9 billion in losses. The presentation will provide residents with important information about common scams, warning signs, and ways to protect themselves and their loved ones from becoming victims of fraud. Township officials strongly encourage residents of all ages to attend and learn about the steps they can take to recognize and prevent scams.

Youth soccer registration for children in kindergarten through sixth grade started on August 29 and will run to September 19. Practices and games will be held throughout the season, with games primarily on Saturday mornings. Some weeknight games may be scheduled. Shin guards are required. Cleats are recommended, and players should bring water to all practices and games.

Youth wrestling registration will begin on September 26.

The Cape May County Health Department notified Lower Township that a water quality sample collected at Richmond Avenue Beach, located between Jefferson Avenue and Rochester Avenue in the Diamond Beach section of the township, on the afternoon of 8/31/26 failed for bacteria, exceeding acceptable water quality standards for recreational bathing beaches.

The Health Department indicated that the beach could remain open at that time. The Health Department re-sampled the site in the afternoon on 9/1/26 and the results received this morning indicated that the water quality samples at that location were negative and the water quality standards for recreational bathing beaches were acceptable and the beaches are to remain opened.

Department: Recreation Department

Hours: Operational Hours- (Tuesday – Saturday)
Salary: $17.42 - $26.00 Hourly
Compensation will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications and relevant experience.
Definition: Under direction, performs routine work in the care and maintenance of outdoor areas such as gardens, park grounds, recreational areas, lawns, athletic fields and courts, and indoor/outdoor turf; operates a variety of equipment, tools, and machinery used to care for and maintain grounds; performs other related duties as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Trims and cuts grass and hedges. Operates equipment such as lawn mowers, weedwhackers, edgers, leaf blowers, snow blowers, hedge trimmers, and other equipment associated with ground maintenance and landscaping activities. Performs minor maintenance on mowers and other equipment such as changing oil, lubricating parts, and adjusting parts. Measures, grades, grooms, and marks athletic fields, recreational areas, and game areas. Maintains the safety and cleanliness of grounds, including removing litter, sweeping walkways, raking leaves, spreading salt, and removing snow and ice.

Maintains the safety of playgrounds and recreational areas by filling holes and keeping play areas free of debris and dangerous obstructions. Makes minor repairs to recreational equipment such as goal posts, soccer nets, and other equipment. Plants, waters, and maintains shrubs, trees, lawns, and flowers. Sets up bleachers. Sprays for weeds and insects using unrestricted chemicals.

Definition
Under direction, inspects new and existing buildings and structures to ensure compliance with the State Uniform Construction Code and enforces same to ensure public safety, health, and welfare; does related work as required.
May assist in the examination of plans for new structures to ensure compliance with the building subcode.
Inspects construction jobs underway for compliance with provisions of the State Uniform Construction Code and makes recommendations to the supervisor regarding construction problems involved.
May assist in initialing and enforcing rules and regulations in relation to enforcement of the building sub code. Prepare reports. Maintain essential records and files.
Learn procedures for issuing citations to subcode violators.
