I had the privilege of spending time at the . I was able to get a coal out of some of the hardest known woods by using the pump-drill method. This way of making fire lends itself well to teaching children, so i’m excited to make some sets for my kids at school to use!

Children made a beautiful, multi-layered art work over the weeks of our frog study. They learned about gray tree frog habitats, raised them from tadpoles to frogs, released them. Then they created clay models of the stages from egg masses to adult frogs, made a woodland pond landscape, and painted a nighttime forest background as a culminating project. I am moved from the beauty of their work.

The frog lessons continue. A student shared gray tree frog tadpoles that were collected from their pool cover way back in May. Students watched as they grew made sculptures, drew pictures, painted habitats, all while learning how to care for frogs, and also about other kind of frogs and toads. Fun fact, all toads are frogs. I didn’t know that! I still have lots of tadpoles that were raising at home because it’s fun, and my kids love it, too.

So good to be home for a moment. Massachusetts is great, but the NJ bay still holds a big piece of my heart.
