Public administration can be defined as the organization and management of people and materials to achieve public purposes.

A Master of Public Administration (MPA) from Villanova provides you with an invaluable credential, hands-on experience and lifelong membership in our community. Yet, this general definition does not capture the variety of organizational arrangements, the wide range of possible management approaches, nor the variety of individuals, groups and materials that are part of public administration. It is an appreciation for the complexity of public administration that supports the mission and goals of Villanova’s Master of Public Administration (MPA) program

Public service doesn’t end when the workday does—it shows up in the connections, coordination, and progress that help communities move forward.

At Villanova University Public Administration, Beyond the Desk highlights professionals like our alumnus Matthew Hulme, Division Manager with the City of Cincinnati’s Department of Transportation and Engineering and the City’s Transit Coordinator.

Working at the intersection of the City and regional transit system, Matthew coordinates with Metro, the Cincinnati Streetcar, micromobility services, rideshare providers, and other transportation partners to help turn ideas into projects the public can use.

From managing Streetcar grants and serving as project manager for two Bus Rapid Transit projects to supporting construction and professional-services procurement, Matthew brings together people, agencies, technical experts, and City processes to keep transportation projects moving.

Because public administration isn’t just a career—it’s a commitment to the common good.
