Michael F. Mayock Distinguished Teacher Coach Award

Big things are happening this year with The Mayock Award. We've added 3 amazing schools (Notre Dame Academy, Agnes Irwin School, and The Baldwin School) to our award rotation! And we've doubled our ability to thank inspirational teacher-coaches by making two awards per year.
Today we visited NDA for the first time, where we felt honored to meet Tom Verdi, a Soccer and Golf Coach. By the reaction we heard from the students as he was announced, we could tell he has been making a terrific impact on the lives of his players and students. Congrats to Tom, and thanks to NDA for their hospitality!

It is the happiest time of the year at The Mayock Award as we are pleased to announce this year's winner from Penn Charter:
The iconic Debbie White who has served as a teacher, lacrosse coach, athletic director, and mentor at Penn Charter dating back to the integration of girls and girls' sports in 1988. Coach Mayock, his family, and the 24 previous previous winners of the prestigious award could not be prouder to have Debbie join their ranks.

The Mayock family is pleased to announce that we will be holding a memorial for Coach Mayock to share how he inspired so many of us as a husband, father, grandfather, teacher, coach, mentor, and friend. Please join us and our kind hosts at The Haverford School on Thursday June 24th, 2021 at 6:30 PM. Festivities will be held (fittingly) at Sabol Field or on the McBride Courts in the Fieldhouse, depending on the weather.

It's with pride for his amazing life of educating and mentoring young people, and sadness for his loss, that Coach Mayock's family announces his passing today.
He was known most publicly as a gruff football coach from the old-school disciplinarian mold, but he took just as much pride in his role as a teacher of math, latin, english, and history (OK, he detested teaching history).
He leaves behind a very large, loving family and many hundreds of devoted former students and players who still talk about the impact he had on them.

Coach Mayock is proud to have presented our 2019 award to Gina Buggy of Episcopal Academy. The roar that went up from the crowd when Gina's name was announced was heartwarming and a testimony to the amazing impact Coach Buggy has had on her student-athletes. Gina is the 24th iconic educator in the inter-ac to be recognized by the Mayock Award, and the winners all represent the very best of what a caring, passionate teacher and coach can offer to a young person.

Coach Mayock is pleased to announce that The Mayock Award will be traveling to Episcopal Academy this Friday. There, a distinguished teacher/coach from EA will join the ranks of iconic educators who have previously won this coveted award.

Coach Mayock was ready to celebrate his 85th birthday with a little Nutcracker drill. But he couldn't find anyone crazy enough to take him on. Happy birthday, Coach!

football had a great opening weekend going 6-0. Wins over strong Catholic and Public teams highlighted by beating #10 ranked Northeast. Congrats to all six squads!

Thanks to Vincent Shea Garman for the reminder that Haverford School and Pitt Football alum, Matt Galambos, will be suiting up for the Steelers tonight in Philly versus the (world champion) Eagles. Let's hope Matt makes an impressive showing but in an Eagles victory!
