Spent the day at Matthew’s Living History Farm outside Galax, Va. They had a great small Timeline of War event. It is a beautiful site. I enjoyed talking to a lot of great people sharing the story of The US Christian Commission! And the surprise lunch made with their own fresher veggies from their garden was awesome too! I will definitely plan to go back next year!

Jesus said: "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments dependeth the whole law and the prophets.” (Matthew 22: 36-40)." It sounds so easy, but at times, it feels like the most difficult commandment to follow. Some people it is easy to love--spouses, children, family, etc. Others not so much. The goal of a follower of Jesus is to love everyone as we love ourselves and as love God.

Jesus does not give us the leeway to love who we want and to disregard, dishonor or ignore others. For He also said, "‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." (Matthew 25:40).

To love each other and serve each other as we wish to be loved and treated and to reflect that love and services to others as we do so to Jesus is our every day, our every minute challenge. Are you up to the challenge? I pray that all of us are, all the time.

The United States Christian Commission (Southeastern Branch)

The United States Christian Commission (Southeastern Branch) is a ministry to the reenacting community which provides material, physical and spiritual comfort, aid and support to the reenactors, spreads the message of the Gospels through active service to our fellow man and educates the public about the contributions and sacrifice of the original United States Christian Commission in the Civil War

At Reenactments or Living History events, the United States Christian Commission will:

* Provide a Soldier’s Rest Station with beverages and food *
* Host/assist with Sunday services and/or prayer meetings *
* Provide a battlefield impression as a chaplain, hospital steward, or as a field dressing station *
* Make period tracts and other spiritual literature available to interested individuals *
* Make presentations to spectators about the USCC, Chaplains, and Religion in the Civil War *
* Be an opportunity for your civilian reenactors to get more involved with the event *

* The USCC will also be available for events outside of the reenacting world, such as revivals, “Old-Tyme Sunday” services, and presentations at local churches and organizations *

Please help this impression and ministry to be successful by welcoming and including the USCC at your local events during this Reenactment year
