🎓 Dooly Legacy Initiative - Week 22 🎓

They walked our halls as students. Now they're shaping the future for the next generation.

This week's Dooly Legacy is Mr. Chanin Hamilton, middle school Physical Education teacher and District Athletic Director at Dooly County Schools!

Mr. Hamilton is a proud Dooly County graduate who came back home wearing not one, but two hats — and excelling in both. On the gym floor, he's teaching our middle schoolers the value of physical fitness, teamwork, and healthy competition. In his role as District Athletic Director, he's overseeing athletics across the entire district, ensuring that every student athlete has the opportunity to compete, grow, and shine.

He knows what it means to represent Dooly County because he did it himself. Now he's building a culture of athletic excellence and school pride from the ground up — one student, one team, and one championship at a time.

🏛️ Tonight’s Dooly County Board of Education meeting kicked off with a special moment — second grader Avalynn Taylor from Miss Small’s class led us in calling the meeting to order!

It’s students like Avalynn who remind us exactly why we do this work. Way to represent, Dooly County K-8 Academy! 🐾

Summer flew by, but the legacy never stops. We are back and ready to continue celebrating the Dooly County graduates who chose to come home and serve!

**This week's Dooly Legacy is Dr. Chiquita Granville**, Assistant Principal at Dooly County High School!

Dr. Granville is a proud Dooly County graduate who returned home to lead with vision, excellence, and a deep love for her community. As assistant principal at the high school level, she is shaping school culture, supporting teachers, and ensuring that every student has the opportunity to reach their highest potential.

She didn't just come back — she came back with a determination to pour everything she has into the place that helped shape her. Dr. Granville is a living example to every student in Dooly County that hard work, perseverance, and pride in where you come from can take you further than you ever imagined.

Strong Growth. Forward Momentum.
Dooly County students are making meaningful academic progress, and mathematics is leading the way! 📈
The 2026 Georgia Milestones results show improvement across our district. Of the 12 End-of-Grade and End-of-Course assessments currently available, seven improved at Developing Learner or above, and eight improved at Proficient Learner or above.
Our strongest gains came in mathematics. We also saw positive momentum in Biology, Algebra, fifth-grade science, and eighth-grade Social Studies.
These gains reflect the hard work of our students and the dedication of our teachers, school leaders, instructional support staff, families, community partners, and Board of Education. We are proud of this progress, but our work continues. During the 2026-2027 school year, we will build on this momentum while providing targeted support in third-grade mathematics, eighth-grade science, and U.S. History.
Every percentage represents students who are growing, gaining skills, and moving closer to proficiency. Let’s celebrate their progress and continue working together to ensure every student reaches their highest aspirations.

🌟 Small Town. BIG Impact. 🌟

Dooly County Schools was honored to present at the 2026 Georgia Association of Educational Leaders (GAEL) Summer Conference in Jekyll Island!

Our presentation, “Small Town, Big Impact: A Community Approach to Tackling Attendance in Rural Dooly County Schools,” highlighted the intentional strategies, strong partnerships, and district-wide systems that have helped improve student attendance and reduce chronic absenteeism across our schools.

Representing Dooly County Schools were Dr. Sherrod Willaford, Superintendent, Ms. Jody Pate, Director of Student Services, and Dr. Hollie Walters, Principal of Dooly K-8 Academy, who shared how collaboration with students, families, staff, and community partners has created a culture where Every Day Counts!

From our Trail Ride into Dooly County and Communities In Schools partnerships to PBIS celebrations, Dollar Days, Pop-Up Praise, and data-driven interventions, our district is proving that when a community works together, remarkable things happen.

We are proud to represent rural Georgia and share how small-town innovation is making a big impact on student success.
