In the next few moments Vienna Child Care Center, Inc. will open its doors for the last time. My mom will slowly be coming in the center after getting up with the chickens, she will slowly flip on the lights, lay out the bowls or plates to prepare for the last breakfast to be served. My dad will do the last school run of taking the kids to school. My mom will smile and greet the parents, maybe giving hugs to the mom having a rough time. She will get hugs from littles ones and she will probably shed some tears.
At the end of the day somewhere between 5:30pm and 6:00pm this evening Vienna Child Care Center, Inc. will close its doors for the final time as Vienna Child Care Center, Inc. As a past parent that stopped in not too long ago put it, Vienna Child Care, Inc. will go to sleep.
This will be a bitter sweet moment. For the past 30 years I have shared my mom with so many kids. I remember being little and spending most of my hours at the center, and then throwing a fit because we would have to eat out because she was tired from a long day. I didn’t know then what that meant but as a mother I totally understand now. She has given so much of her self these last 30 years. The center has been closed maybe 3-4 days max because of a long holiday in those 30 years , that’s 10, 950 days to be exact.
So I ask, please be kind to her today. Maybe a smile or a longer hug. This decision was so hard for her. I believe if she physically had it in her she would have continued as long as she could have. She’s been a mother, a mamaw, a friend, and even a therapist to many over these last 30 years. She will need your support today more than you will ever know. And with that being said, I’m so thankful to be getting my mother and my father back to enjoy the time that we have left. I have shared her for many many years and I know as those doors close today and the lights go off for the last time as Vienna Child Care Center, Inc. there will be a huge sigh, a huge release of a purpose well spent.
