Being Needed Everywhere is NOT Leadership

Leadership friends- let me say this lovingly....

Some of you are not leading a team.
You are carrying a system.

And let’s be honest- I know it feels good to be needed.

Whether we want to admit it or not, every leader has an ego. It feels good to be the one people call.

The one people trust.
The one who can figure it out.
The one who knows the answer.
The one who can walk in, calm the chaos, fix the problem, and keep things moving.

That can feel like impact.
That can feel like proof that you matter.

But here’s the part we do not talk about enough:
Being needed everywhere is not always a sign of strong leadership.
Sometimes it is a sign that the system is too dependent on you.

Every text.
Every crisis.
Every decision.
Every team issue.
Every dropped ball.
Somehow, it all lands with you.

And because you can handle it, people keep handing it to you. The goal of leadership is not to be the only person who knows what to do-the goal is to build people, processes, and clarity so the work can move without you carrying every piece of it.

So here’s your bold move for today:

Ask yourself: Where am I being needed because I have not built enough clarity?

Is it decision-making?
Communication?
Accountability?
Follow-through?
Problem-solving?

Your next level may not require more hustle. It may require a stronger system.

Busy is not a badge of honor.

And being needed everywhere is not a leadership strategy.
