Young 10-year-old Chloe made a perfect cone in her pottery class tonight!

Coning is a very important process in throwing. It helps re-center the clay and reassures the riddance of any air pockets that might not have been taken care of during wedging. Without coning, you could end up with a crack in a piece, a wonky shape, and uneven walls.

One thing to be mindful of when coning is getting to a consistent and tall shape, making sure to apply pressure from the base and more as you go up, and coning up the clay slowly and little by little. This prevents losing a good amount of your clay due to pressure and speedy movement.

We are thrilled to announce that our Director and Artist, Yunkyoung "Kay" Cho, was recently invited to showcase her artwork at the Pop-up Charity Exhibition at Neiman Marcus Tyson's Galleria VA! The exhibition was organized to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and Kay's work was an exclusive feature.

Kay Cho is an accomplished textile, fiber, installation, and mixed media artist based in the DMV area, and her work has been exhibited extensively across the United States and even in South Korea. Her dedication to the arts and to the NYSA community is an inspiration to us all, and we couldn't be more proud of her recent achievement.
