This course will cover theological principles and relevant scientific and medical background to equip ministry leaders and Christians in other callings. “The second person of the Trinity made incarnate is, of course, more than simply a theme of God’s self-revelation in the Old Testament Scriptures. He is the culmination of God’s self-revelation in all of history, the perfect embodiment of the godhead (Col 2:9)” - Dr. Scott Redd ()

Dr. Scott Redd is the President and Stephen B. Elmer Professor of Old Testament at the Washington, DC, campus of RTS.

Scott began his career at the Burson-Marsteller office in downtown Washington, DC, where he was involved in media consultation for multiple national and international corporate clients. He decided to leave the business world to pursue a Master of Divinity at RTS in Orlando, FL, and then went on to complete his doctoral dissertation in the Department of Semitic Language and Egyptian Languages and Literatures at the Catholic University of America. During his doctoral studies, he taught at Fourth Presbyterian Church (Bethesda, MD) and ministered at Christ the King Presbyterian Church (Raleigh, NC).

In 2009, Scott came back to his alma mater to join on the faculty of RTS Orlando, where he also served as Dean of Students, before moving to Washington, DC, in 2012. Scott has also taught at Catholic University of America, the Augustine Theological Institute in Malta, the International Training Institute in the Mediterranean basin, and for Third Millennium Ministries.

Scott’s interests include literary approaches to the Bible, linguistics and the biblical languages, ancient Near Eastern backgrounds to Scripture, and Old Testament theology. He cares deeply about the teaching of Scripture and its application to all situations in life, particularly in the context of a learning and worshiping community. Due to this interest, he continually finds himself drawn to the learning community of the seminary as well as that of the church.

Scott is married to the love of his life, Jennifer, and together they have five daughters.

Fall 2023 Course Highlight: The Role of Religion in International Affairs

The fundamental religious nature of human beings means that religion will be a perpetual factor in world affairs. Yet this has often been ignored or theorized away in policymaking. How can a Christian perspective on human nature and the role of faith in the lives of individuals and communities inform the fields of national security and international relations? How might this outlook shape the callings of individual Christians, whether as citizen or specialist? What are the religious trends and dynamics that influence international politics and security today?

Join us on Wednesday, September 13 at 7:00 p.m. for a discussion with the translators, Drs. Gray Sutanto and Cory Brock. Reception to follow.

Christianity and Science is the first English translation of Herman Bavinck’s Christelijke wetenschap, originally published in 1904. Here Bavinck focuses on the impact of the Christian worldview on the modern university, and how Christian scholars might apply particular doctrines in the service of the various academic disciplines, such as the humanities, religious studies, and the natural sciences. A companion to Bavinck’s Christian Worldview (Crossway, 2019), Christianity and Science offers edifying reflections useful for faculty development at institutions of Christian higher education as well as for individual scholars reflecting on their callings.

"Paul Jeon effectively, eloquently, and efficiently encourages all of us through this study to live out our true hope of eternal life not in isolation, but in a local church-strengthening, outward-oriented, good works-pursuing, and culture-transforming way--all through the lens of the gospel. Although the Apostle Paul's letter to Titus is short, its depth, relevancy, and timelessness were made all the more clear to me through this book. I highly recommend it!" - John C. Kim, President of Jesus Awakening Movement for America/All Nations
