Advanced 1 and Advanced 2 classes are currently full for the Fall semester. If you are still interested in taking one of those classes, please register and we will put you on the waiting list

St. Mark Catholic Church is seeking volunteer teachers and assistant teachers for its adult English classes for the Fall 2020 semester. All classes will be conducted online via Zoom. Classes will be on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for one hour, from Tuesday, September 29 until Thursday, December 3. In addition to English language classes, we will also offer informal English Conversation, Writing, and Citizenship Preparation. We are sad to say that we must cancel the Spring term for St. MarkESL. Virginia governor Ralph Northam has announced that all schools in the state of Virginia- public and private schools- will be closed for whole academic term. For us that means: no Spring term.

For those of you who have already registered and paid for the Spring term, we can offer you credit for the Fall term. We hope that we can begin classes again in September as usual.

If you would like a refund instead, you need to email Mary Ann Dmochowski, the bookkeeper in the St. Mark Church office: [email protected]

1. If you paid by credit card you will get a refund credit on your account, Please include: your full name, the date your charged it on your card, the name on your card and the last for numbers on that credit card.

2. If you paid in cash, you will receive a refund check. Please also include your full name.

Innovative Language Learning

St. Mark English as a Second Language Classes postponed.

Due to the COVID 19 corona virus situation, St. Mark ESL will not hold registration on March 24-26 as previously planned nor will we begin classes on March 31. It might be possible to begin after Easter (April 12) for an abbreviated program. We will be following Fairfax County Public School policies and those of Catholic Charities ESL programs. We will keep all volunteers and students informed as we assess developments. When we are able to start up the program again, we will send out a notice for students and would welcome new volunteers.

Meanwhile, we hope you stay healthy and take good care of yourselves and your families. Thank you to all our volunteers for their generous service. We will continue forward as a team to weather this difficult and confusing time.

St. Mark's Catholic Church English as a Second Language (ESL) ministry is opening registration for upcoming Spring Term ESL classes, which starts March 31!

Advance registration will take place before class next Tuesday and Thursday on Mar. 10 and 12 ($10 for all classes vs $25). You can also pick up a “Family and Friends Coupon” that they can share for Spring Semester.

Regular registration is also on Tuesday March 24th, and Thursday March 26, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.!

Our ESL classes are offered on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings, from March 31- June 2, 2020. A class for everyone at any English level- from beginner to advanced!

St. Mark's ESL program will have class on Tuesday, Jan 28, even though Fairfax Schools are closed for teacher training. Usually, when Fairfax schools are closed, there is no ESL, but this Tuesday you should come to class.

Registration for winter term is still going on! New and Returning students who have not yet registered for the Winter term can still do so on Tuesday, Jan. 14 and Thursday, Jan. 16 from 7:00-8:00 pm at St. Marks

We are seeking Students and Volunteers to participate in our upcoming Winter 2020 Term, Jan. 14- Mar. 12. Our goal is to ‘Welcome the Stranger’ and provide a program where adults from all ethnic and religious backgrounds can come and learn English and acclimate better to life in the U.S.!

Vienna Mayor Laurie DiRocco spoke October 29 to adult ESL students at St. Mark Catholic Church about her duties as mayor, structure of the Vienna Town government, town goals and issues and community events. Several of the students in the audience are studying for the U.S. Citizenship exam or have emigrated from nations that do not have a democratically elected government.
