Custom designed, museum-style programs incorporate artwork, objects and hands-on learning to engage young children and their families. Cabinet of Curiosities LLC also organizes and leads field trips, assists museums with creating public programs and provides educational consulting. Based in Northern Virginia, we happily travel throughout the Washington, D.C.

It looks like they’re just playing store. But look a little closer.

One child is practicing writing. Another is solving a problem with the materials they have. Another is watching, observing, and building confidence. Another is negotiating how to join a group and find a role.

They’re practicing math, language, fine motor skills, creativity, problem-solving, cooperation, communication, and self-regulation—all while doing something they chose to do.

That’s the power of learning through play. The learning isn’t separate from the play. The play is the learning.
