Next up on our Vidor ISD Employee Spotlight is Officer Kiara Thomas! She is in her first year at Vidor ISD and currently serves as the police officer assigned to Pine Forest Elementary. She has quickly gained the respect of the Pine Forest students and staff, and she has gained their confidence and trust.
One member of the Pine Forest family had this to say, “Officer Thomas has been absolutely amazing! She takes her role and the safety of our campus very seriously. When she noticed that our gym doors were not closing properly, she immediately contacted maintenance. A crew came out that same day and fixed the problem.

She has also helped make parent drop-off and pick-up run smoothly, especially during the busy beginning of the school year. I could go on and on about what a wonderful person and officer she has been for everyone at PFE. She makes us feel like we are in great and safe hands.”

We are excited to shine the Vidor ISD Employee Spotlight on first year VHS biology teacher and soccer coach, Kelsie Owens! Like many new teachers, Coach Owens is entering teaching as a second career as she has been a registered nurse in the healthcare industry for several years. This required her to enter an educator preparation program in order to work toward her teacher certification. She entered the alternative certification program in June and worked through the modules and required tests and was able to obtain her intern certificate in just THREE MONTHS! She did this while preparing for her first year in the classroom, reviewing the curriculum, setting up her room, and all the things that go with being a successful teacher! She has quickly gained the respect and admiration of her students and colleagues and she is off to a great start as a first year teacher! On top of all this, she is also working through offseason workouts as an assistant coach for the Lady Pirate Soccer program. Coach Owens is a 2019 VHS graduate and a Lady Pirate Soccer Alumnus. We are excited to see her return to VHS to give back to her school and to pour into the next generation of students and athletes!

Today on Patriot Day, we pause to honor and remember the 2,977 innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001.

We pay tribute to the brave first responders—firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and military personnel—who ran toward danger without hesitation, as well as the everyday heroes whose courageous acts inspired a nation.

More than two decades later, our resolve remains strong. We honor their legacy by choosing unity, strength, and compassion over fear.

We will never forget.

🎓 Exploring the Future at VHS!

🚀Our Vidor High School students took a major step toward their futures at the 2026–2027 Annual Fall College and Career Fair!

From exploring college options and technical programs to connecting with local career representatives, trade schools, and military recruiters, our Pirates spent the morning asking great questions and discovering all the pathways open to them after graduation.

A huge thank you to all the representatives, university reps, local community partners, and parents who came out to support our high schoolers! Your time and guidance make a world of difference as our students plan their next big steps. 💡✨
