Our Mentor Toombs trainings, hosted by Toombs County Schools in partnership with Toombs Family Connection, were held on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. The Mentor Toombs program is continuing to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young students across Toombs County Schools as the initiative begins its third year. Focused on first and second grade students, the program connects community volunteers with children to encourage literacy development and build positive relationships. MENTOR Toombs was developed and launched with the support of MENTOR Georgia, through a grant from the Sandra Dunagan Deal Center for Early Language and Literacy.
The idea for the program originated with Lyons Primary School Principal Dr. Tracy Mulkey, whose vision for increasing literacy support and positive mentorship opportunities helped launch the initiative. Since its beginning, the program has received strong support from school administrators, staff, and community leaders who recognize the importance of investing in young students.
