Sadly, we have lost another classmate, Ruth Cramer Smallwood. Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers.
Frances Ruth Cramer Smallwood of Gloucester, VA, born 11/4/1947 in Harlingen Texas, moved to her heavenly home on Sunday May 17, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Ruth is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, John Smallwood; her son Nathan Smallwood (Toni Chance) of Pflugerville, TX; her daughter, Deanna Smallwood Montanio of Gloucester, VA; grandchildren, Cody Smallwood (Saije), Mia Montanio, Samantha Smallwood, and Mylee Montanio; greatgrandson, Sebastian; sister Susan Cramer Fricke; brother Lee Cramer; numerous brothers in-law and sisters in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Allene and Lee Cramer, and her sisters Kay Whatley and Mary Lee Cramer.
Ruth dedicated her professional life to the education field, lovingly taught school and served in administration in Texas, Colorado and Georgia. Ruth loved to travel, traveling the world by age 23 and traveling the U.S. throughout her life to visit family and friends, fish, attend concerts and whatever travel opportunity presented itself. Ruth knew no strangers and was beloved by friends and colleagues far and wide.
A memorial service will be held at Bellamy United Methodist Church, 4870 Chestnut Fork Rd, Gloucester, Va on Thursday 05/21/2026. Visitation 11 a.m. to service start at 12 Noon. Internment will follow at the church cemetery, with refreshments after at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bellamy United Methodist Church (where Ruth volunteered charity work), or to Samaratins Purse, or Feed the Children.

While we had a great luncheon on Tuesday, we also got some very sad news. Our classmate, Joe Dutton, has passed away. We were all so very sad to hear this news as Joe was one of everyone's favorites. A really great guy who will be missed terribly. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks to David and Doris Boyd for letting us know.

Hello Everyone!!
It's almost time again for our quarterly luncheon. We will be meeting on Tuesday, April 21st at 11:30 a.m. at Vera Cruz Restaurant, 3110 N. Navarro, Victoria, Tx. We have their back room reserved and you will be able to order off the menu and pay separately.
While you do not need to make a reservation, we do need a rough estimate of how many to expect in order to help the restaurant prepare for our event. So, if you will just respond here if you plan to come, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, we need your help in spreading the word to our classmates who are not on social media.
Just a reminder and update on the Scholarship status:
Endowed Scholarship at Victoria College in the name of VHS Class of 1965. Happy New Year! FYI at the end of 2025, we have collected $8825 toward the $15000 minimum for the endowed scholarship at Victoria College in the name of VHS Class of 1965. Thanks to all who have contributed. A special announcement to start the year: for the first three individuals who contribute $250, an anonymous donor will match/contribute $1000 per the $250. Just think - that raises another $3750. This is getting closer to our minimum. So, please get this out in your next newsletter. But let’s don’t stop there. Please contribute any amount for which you have a level of comfort. Contributions can be mailed to Victoria College Foundation. 2200 E. Red River. Victoria Tx. 77901. Make checks out to Victoria College Foundation and put VHS Class of 65 on memo line. Or if you have questions or wish to contribute by credit card, please contact Susan Prukop at the college. 361-582-2419 Please pass this on to fellow classmates and friends. Thanks. Gerald Haschke (Class of ’65)
We are looking forward to seeing you at the luncheon so help us spread the word!
