Sunday Gospel ~ Long Suffering

Also known as patience or patiently enduring hard times.

It is described as a core character trait of God and a gift that the Holy Spirit gives to believers!

Let me say that again, a core character trait of God and a gift to you and I!

Patience is a fruit of the Holy Spirit along with love, joy, peace, goodness, self control, kindness and faithfulness which leads to forgiveness as well.

And the promise is after you have suffered a little God will himself:

Restore you
Make you strong
Make you firm
Make you steadfast

Most of us, especially us Firefighters are always looking for the answer to the problem in the fastest most efficient and effective way possible.

When we apply this to our lives and try and do it our way or with a quick fix we really get no fix at all and we get the following results.

Anger
Bitterness
Hardness
Impatience
Jealousy
Divisiveness
Drunkenness
Sexual immorality
Lying
Cheating
Stealing
Unforgiveness

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see these two outcomes for what they are, it takes a believer led by Holy Spirit!

Choose Christ and choose to be patient in your long suffering, one feeble step, day and prayer at a time and find out!

1 peter 5:10 ~ And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast

Our hearts are broken!

Lauran has given so much of her heart to the mission of Firemanship over the years 🙏❤️🔥

She has 5 children to care for without her husband now and every dollar will go to her and help provide for them.

She is a resilient women of strong faith who has overcome much adversity especially In recent years before this tragic accident even took place.

So please also lift her and her family up in your prayers as well to our Heavenly Father to comfort her and draw even closer to her than ever before, may she feel his warm embrace as she mourns 🙏❤️🔥

She has such an amazing heart and has been an absolute blessing to our Firemanship family and all who have come to learn.

She has inspired and lifted up so many!

The Firemanship Family requests your support for one of our own, Battalion Chief Lauran Franklin of the Salisbury Fire Department. Last weekend, Lauran lost her husband, Shawn, to a tragic car accident in Kentucky.

Lauran has been an instructor for our spouse HOT track for the past three years - guiding spouses, empowering women, and strengthening fire families. Now, her family could use some love and support during this unimaginable time. Shawn and Lauran are the parents of five children, two who were recently welcomed through foster care.

Sunday Gospel - Joy In The Sorrow

“Those who sow with tears
will reap with songs of joy.
Those who go out weeping,
carrying seed to sow,
will return with songs of joy,
carrying sheaves with them.”
- Pslam 126:5-6

We must not waste our sorrows.

Our sorrows can produce joy when we sow the seeds of our grief through acts of humility, sacrifice and love towards one another. We lose when we waste our sorrows on destruction, bitterness, hardness anger and self-pity.

As firefighters we are In the service of sorrow, pain, suffering and loss. No one calls 911 when they are having a good day.

Our sorrow is not isolated to only the call!

Our lives away from sirens, cries and walls of the firehouse are woven into our sorrows of service, compounding undoubtedly who we are and who we will become.

Imagine the joy that could follow if we were able to sow all those seeds of sorrow in the way Jesus did. He took on the ultimate suffering in death to bring life to the whole human race.

Jesus is the ultimate example of someone who brought joy out of suffering. Selfless sacrifice for you and I to have a loving relationship with the creator of the heaven and earth.

So I need only to look to Jesus for the example of who I want to be in the midst of my sorrow.
