Be part of the Great Southeast Pollinator Census! August 21-22, 2026!

It's easy...

1. Print your data sheet at msucoastal.com/census
2. Pick a plant.
3. Set a time for 15 minutes. Start counting!
4. Share your final results at GSePC.org

Originating as a pilot project in Georgia around 2017, the census was created in response to a desire for gardeners to learn more about the pollinators they were seeing. Fast forward several years, Mississippi is now the sixth state to be included in the Great Southeast Pollinator Census, joining alongside Georgia, Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

The three main goals of the project are:

1. to create sustainable pollinator habitat.
2. to increase the entomological literacy of our citizens.
3. to generate useful data about our pollinator populations.

We have just a few more weekends for the Vicksburg Farmers Market that is typically on Saturdays, 8 to 11am. Here’s a few photos of our Master Gardeners sharing their knowledge, passion, and plants at our educational booth each week. One week the topic was Growing Zinnias; another was Vermiculture (worm Composting). Come visit!

Want to become a Mississippi Master Gardener?

2026 Master Gardener online training will be conducted from October 1st through December 10th. The registration period will be from August 12th through September 9th.

On Wednesday July 22nd, many MSU Extension offices will be hosting interest meetings for the Master Gardener program. Contact your local Extension office to find out where you can attend a session to learn more about becoming a Master Gardener!
