Southminster Day School was established in 1967 and is a mission of Southminster Presbyterian Church.

We aim to give children a quality foundational education in their early formative years in a Christian atmosphere.

Congratulations to our 5th grader, Destiny! After she won 1st Place in the local DAR Essay contest, her essay was advanced to the Statewide level where she won 1st Place in the Statewide Contest as well!!

She recently attended the Alabama Society Daughters of the American Revolution State Conference to accept her award and read her essay aloud. This year’s theme was “Lunch with a Signer” and essays were judged on historical accuracy, adherence to the topic, organization of materials, interest, originality, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and neatness. Congratulations, Destiny!

All of our 5th grade students participate in this essay contest each year, and we are so grateful to the Princess Sehoy Chapter for inviting our students to participate. We have had many state winners through the years!

Come join us at Southminster Day School's Open House tomorrow night, Tuesday, February 24th from 6:30-8:00 pm.

This is an excellent opportunity for current and prospective families to chat with our SDS staff, explore upper grades, see students' current schoolwork in their classrooms and throughout the halls. Current parents will be on hand to share what they love about SDS.

Southminster Day School provides enrollment for grades 4K-5th as well as early and after hours care. Southminster has a traditional "low tech" approach to education, using textbooks, with an emphasis on reading and handwriting (including cursive).
