🎨🚗 VHS Paint Your Parking Space is LIVE. 🚗🎨

Versailles High School students will once again have the opportunity to personalize their parking spaces for the school year!

📅 Painting Date :
• Tuesday, August 18
• Or by appointment

📍 Student parking lot between the football field and the elementary school.

💲Cost:
• $20 – Personalized painted parking space
• $15 – Reserved parking spot only (no painting)

*Make checks payable to MCR2 and Student Council Parking Spot Fundraiser in the memo line.

Students will select spaces in the following order:
Student Government ➡️ Seniors ➡️ Juniors ➡️ Sophomores (Teachers can also join the fun!)

🎨 Paint Requirements:
✔️ Water-based latex or acrylic paint only
✔️ Flat paint ONLY (no sheen)
✔️ Brushes only — NO spray paint or paint sprayers
✔️ Must provide 1 gallon of BLACK flat paint for end-of-year repainting

⚠️ Designs must be approved before painting. Spots must follow the VHS student code of conduct and reflect positive, school-appropriate creativity.

Suggested supplies:
🖌 Paint brushes & rollers
📏 Rulers
🧹 Broom
🧻 Towels
🖍 Chalk
🗑 Trash bags
🎨 Painter’s tape

No refunds will be given after painting begins.

Congratulations to Mrs. Brantley!🖤💛

Versailles High School librarian and dual credit public speaking instructor Leslie Brantley was recently recognized by State Fair Community College (SFCC) as a recipient of the 2026 NISOD Excellence Award for dual credit and adjunct faculty.

For more than 30 years, the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development Excellence Awards have recognized outstanding faculty, staff, and administrators at member colleges. These awards honor educators whose dedication helps shape the future of community and technical college students and who make a positive difference in their schools and communities.

Mrs. Brantley will begin her 27th year with the Morgan County R-II School District this fall. She has also served as a dual credit and adjunct instructor for State Fair Community College since 2013.

Congratulations to Mrs. Brantley on this well-deserved honor! We are thankful for her dedication to our students and our school community.

Morgan County R-II Awarded More Than $1.18 Million 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant

The Morgan County R-II School District has been awarded a five-year 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) grant worth up to $1,187,060 to support expanded after-school programming through June 30, 2031.

The district has been awarded up to $237,412 for the first year of the grant. Funding is provided through a reimbursement process, allowing approved grant funds to support eligible program costs.

Through this grant, Morgan County R-II will launch A.I.M. (Academic Intervention & Mentoring), a 21st CCLC program designed to provide students in grades K-12 with additional support beyond the traditional school day. A.I.M. will offer mentoring, tutoring, homework assistance, and academic support in language arts, reading, math, and core curriculum, along with engaging enrichment activities.

"This is tremendous news for our students, families, and community," said Superintendent Dr. Bryan Pettengill. "This grant provides us with an opportunity to expand learning beyond the school day in a fiscally responsible manner. We are excited about the opportunities this creates for our students over the next five years."

Pettengill also recognized Ms. Becki Kempf for her work on the grant application. "Ms. Kempf dedicated countless hours to researching program requirements, writing the application, coordinating community partners, and facilitating every aspect of the process. This grant simply would not have happened without her work."

Planning for A.I.M. is already underway for the 2026-2027 school year.

At this time, program hours are planned for:
- Mondays: 7:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
- Tuesdays–Thursdays: 3:45 p.m. – 5:45 p.m.

Transportation for students participating is currently tentative and will depend on the availability of bus drivers. Additional information regarding enrollment, program offerings, and transportation will be shared with families as plans are finalized.

The district looks forward to partnering with students, families, staff, and community members to provide expanded learning opportunities that support student success.

Important Transportation Update:

Beginning with the 2026-2027 school year, Morgan County R-II School District will no longer provide evening Activity Bus transportation. We wanted to share this information well in advance to allow families time to make alternative transportation arrangements for students participating in after-school activities.

MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY 2026

Once again, VHS represented at the annual Versailles Cemetery Memorial Day ceremony. Every year it is a wonderful program put on by VHS alum, Pete Robinson. Addison Kerr was the keynote speaker for this years ceremony and she did phenomenal. She is talented beyond measure, and she showed it once again with an awesome speech.

Another cool element to this year's ceremony was the four young VHS students Nik Dunham, Randy Taylor, Johnathan Hauschulz, and Mackie Wood. These kids played a musical number as well. I apologize, I can't remember the name of the piece, but they did great! Especially considering that the wind was blowing their sheet music all around!
