Theatre LILA

Theatre LILA has been presenting professional theatre productions since we founded the company in New York City in 2004. Since transplanting the company to Madison in 2013, we have gathered some of the best theatre artists in the state to collaborate and create new works with us. Our company is lead by professional theatre artists with the skill set and forward thinking needed to create these inve

ntive works and connect with our community. We are proud to be leading the way as the only Wisconsin company creating original multi-disciplinary full-length professional theatre works. We began our invention pieces with The Suitcase Dreams presented in collaboration with the Overture Center in 2014 where five local playwrights joined together with musicians to create an original work that was critically acclaimed. Suitcase was then produced by high schools around the country and at the 2015 Edinburgh Theatre Festival in Scotland. Our original works TRASH and The BED brought together writers from Dane County and around the country to create a collage of original music, dance and theatre. We have also collaborated with other theatre companies to produce work that presents diversity in artists, connect with educators on important topics, and increase and expand our audience size and demographic including Children’s Theatre of Madison on our production A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Milwaukee’s Bronzeville Arts Ensemble to produce The Mojo and The Sayso, and Four Seasons Theatre on our co-production of Big Fish. We are an organization dedicated to serving our entire community through programming choices and consistency in diversifying casting and providing outreach workshops to combination of students and adults in a diverse cross section of the community. Since 2013 we have reached over 4000 community members through no cost workshops providing opportunities for community building, enhancing leadership skills, storytelling and creative expression. Our outreach and educational focus is an integral part of our mission and is often merged with each production we create for the stage.
