So… what does “operational” actually mean?

You’ll hear that word a lot when talking about the 2026 referendum, so let’s break it down.

👉 Operational funding = funding that helps run our schools.

This is NOT a building or construction referendum. It’s about supporting the people, programs, services and ongoing expenses that make our schools work every day.

WEAC leaders and allies will raise the Pride Flag at the WEAC Building on Monday, June 1, to mark National Pride Month and make a statement of support of the LGBTQ+ community on behalf of Wisconsin's educators.

During a time of fear and division, WEAC President Peggy Wirtz-Olsen said, “Every student in every public school needs to feel seen, heard and valued. Our union supports our students and members and we want them to know they are safe, and loved, and supported in their schools.”

Teacher Appreciation Week begins tomorrow! Let’s show our dedicated teachers how much we appreciate them by transforming appreciation into ACTION. That means respect, fair wages, and a voice at the table when decisions about our schools and students’ futures are made.

Here are some ways to turn your APPRECIATION into ACTION:
💙 Support collective bargaining rights in your state. Educators earn more—24% more, on average—where they have strong unions and the freedom to bargain collectively.
💙 Vote for pro-public education candidates for your school board, state house, and U.S. Congress.
💙 Speak up for teachers at school board meetings. Ensure their voices and needs are heard by local leaders who decide funding, salaries, benefits, class sizes, and more.
