PACE Teen Program

It’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Today we highlight the importance of inclusion, awareness and understanding of all disabilities, visible or not. Individuals with a disability have needs and abilities as unique as a fingerprint. When we meet them where they’re at we are creating opportunities for everyone to learn from each other and succeed.

We recently did an activity called “in their boots”. We spun a wheel to pick a random scenario in which someone may frustrate or upset us and then roleplayed together. Imagining being in someone else’s “boots” was a great exercise to work on empathy, problem solving and other important social skills. We wrapped up by playing a game of ghost in the graveyard too because it’s officially October! 👻🎃

This week may have been our most beautiful outing as we visited the 🪷 We had a blast exploring and soaking up knowledge and beauty!

You can’t complain about a scavenger hunt that leads to sweets! After following each of the clues, they found their baking assignment and got to work in the kitchen. 🍪🧑🏻‍🍳⏲️

Our PACE outings are great opportunities to have fun and socialize but also to practice life skills like ordering your favorite pizza or drink from a server. 🍕We are always thankful to for hosting our group outings! 🎳

Yesterday, we used teamwork and problem solving skills to build boats then test which items they could keep afloat. We use fun activities like these to deliberately work on important skills in our sessions. We always like to take skills like these and apply them to a real life activity which helps with generalization.
