Preconference day is all about: What if play could transform the way we teach?

In this dynamic, hands-on workshop, participants will dive into the power of self-active play—not just as a concept, but as an experience. Through rich exploration with open-ended and natural materials, educators will rediscover the joy and purpose of play while uncovering new ways to elevate everyday early childhood practices

Building on the principles of From Play to Practice by , this session connects inspiration with implementation, giving educators strategies they can use right away to increase engagement, reduce challenging behaviors, and deepen meaningful play. Participants will engage in playful, adult-play experiences that strengthen STEAM learning, literacy development, and essential life skills—all while gaining practical strategies to address challenging behaviors through purposeful play.

Participants will experience firsthand how open-ended materials spark creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving, while also supporting well-being for both children and adults. Through hands-on exploration, collaborative play, and guided reflection, educators will deepen their understanding of how to design environments that foster curiosity, imagination, and meaningful learning.

Attendees will leave with practical tools and strategies to incorporate open-ended materials into their settings, support child-led exploration, and thoughtfully observe and respond to children’s play—along with renewed inspiration for the work.
