VTSD Preschool rising Kindergarten students visited Cedar Mountain last week. Students toured the building, spent time in a kindergarten classroom and a special (PE, art, library, music), and also had a snack in the cafeteria. This event was a collaboration between all VTSD preschool programs: Walnut Ridge, Growing and Knowing Academy, Discovery Years; along with Cedar Mountain and Maschio's food service. You can see by all of the smiling faces that students are excited about going to Kindergarten in September. Thank you to everyone who made this event a success!

Mrs. Chupka's class participated in The Adventures of the Flat Lorax that travels between school and classrooms across the district. Mrs. Chupka's class also had a special visitor to make this project extra memorable!

Walnut Ridge students have been learning about how to keep the germs away and how to recycle!

Recently, the Sussex County Department of Health presented “Wash Away the Germs.” Students learned proper handwashing techniques and to sing the ABC song two times while washing. 🫧

The Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority (SCUMA) taught students how to recycle. Students practice sorting recyclable items and had a surprise visit from Sammy the Seagull. I think the adults learned from this program as well! ♻️

During the week of March 23-27, 2026, Mrs. Jacobs’ class used the Holiday Today app to find a new reason to celebrate every day!

• Monday: We kicked things off with Puppy Day. After reading a heartwarming book about puppies, the students got creative and made their very own puppy puppets.
• Tuesday: We cooled down for Slushy Day. The whole class pitched in to whip up delicious slushies and completed a themed craft to match.
• Wednesday: We celebrated Waffles Day. The whole class participated in making and decorating waffles.
• Thursday: Things turned colorful for Purple Day. Inspired by the classic Harold and the Purple Crayon, we designed purple minions and shared imaginative ideas about what we would draw with a magic crayon.
• Friday: We wrapped up the week with Scribble Day. Following a reading of Scribble Stones, the students painted their own stones. We look forward to creating a permanent indoor garden for our stones to stay in the classroom!

It was a wonderful week of variety and creativity, and the students truly enjoyed every activity.

This week in Preschool has been filled with teamwork, creativity, and a little bit of magic for Mrs.
Stoll’s friends. ✨

Our class worked together to design and build a leprechaun trap. While we didn’t catch a leprechaun, one did sneak into our classroom and left behind special “leprechaun rocks” We used magic water to dissolve them and discover coins inside what a fun surprise!🍀

We’ve also loved taking turns bringing home our class-authored book to read with our families, helping us build a strong connection between school and home.
In addition, we’ve begun our “Capture and Caption” project, where students take photos of meaningful moments in our classroom and then draw or write about them.

These special pages are helping us create our very own classroom stories binder, filled with memories and student voice.

It’s been a joyful week of learning, exploring, and storytelling!📖

Mrs. Bubendorf’s class had so much fun celebrating Love for Reading Week! 📚❤️

We enjoyed reading on our bellies and cuddling up with our most special stuffed animals while diving into great books. As we explored the wonderful world of Dr. Seuss and The Cat in the Hat, we even experimented with puffy paint to bring our creativity to life! 🎨

We “dropped everything and read,” taking time to enjoy stories together and talk about how our differences are what make our classroom shine.

We participated in a Battle of the Books, and voted for our favorite Mo Willems’ stories. It has been a wonderful week full of imagination, creativity, and a love for reading! ✨📖
