The first week of fall means a full week of apples for Miss. DiCarlo’s class🍂🍏! Throughout the week we’ve observed, painted with, ate, and picked different kinds of apples.
It started with reading Ten Apples Up On Top by Dr. Suess, which got us thinking about apples and their insides - so naturally we grabbed some apples and cut them in half! One side went to paint our own apples up on top of our head, but we put a fun spin on a Dr. Seuss classic and instead of doing ten, we did enough to spell out our names. The other side sparked the scientist in us, causing us to use magnifying glasses for a closer look at what these apples really look like, both inside and out! After closely investigating and exploring new adjectives, the students drew what they saw and it was beautiful.
Apple picking looked a little different in this classroom! We stretched our fingers and practiced some fine motor skills by using tweezers to pick the apple beads from the play-doh trees; the students earned an A+ on that one 🌳🍎. One last craft rounded out our week when we filled their name baskets with apples that had all the letters in their names! It was so fun searching for the letters and piecing them together like a puzzle.
Finally, the collective favorite activity of the week was trying the different apples! We had Red Delicious, Granny Smith, and Golden Delicious apples to taste test, as well as decide which one was our all-time favorite. We voted on it and the results of Miss. DiCarlo’s class favorite apples was 🥁🥁…Red Delicious! 🍎
This week was apple-solutely wonderful and our class couldn’t have been more excited to share it with everyone!
