If this is you, take a breath. You’re doing fine.

The first few days can feel like a lot—new faces, new buildings, new schedules, and maybe a few “Where am I supposed to go?” moments. We’ve been walking plenty of nervous students to class this week, and we get it.

But give it time. You’ll find your routine. You’ll find your people. You’ll find your place. Before long, VC will start feeling like your home away from home.

Join a club. Make a friend. Ask for help when you need it. From free tutoring to emergency aid and our food pantry, we’re here for the whole student.

You’re new here. You’re not on your own.

Welcome back, Chaparrals!

Good food, new friends, and a little Chappie time made for a pretty great start to the semester. We loved seeing everyone at our Welcome Back Picnic on the Vernon Campus!

Every year, we see it happen.

Tomorrow, we’ll watch students walk through our doors carrying backpacks, schedules, coffee, and a whole lot of uncertainty.

Students fresh out of high school. Some are the first in their family to attend college. And others are adults returning to the classroom after years in the workforce.

We see something they don’t see yet.

We know the student who feels lost today will eventually know these halls by heart. The quiet student will find their people. Classmates will become friends. And those friends will be standing beside each other at pinnings, awards ceremonies and graduation, wondering how they ever got through it without each other.

We don’t always know when a student will start to feel like they belong. But we know they will.

And if you’re a returning sophomore? Well… look at you. No new backpack. No wandering the halls looking for your classroom. You’re coming back with the confidence of someone who knows exactly where they’re going. We see you.

We are so excited to welcome WFISD high schools to our Dual Credit Orientation (DC Compass) today!
We are all here to help prepare our students for the first day of class!

Vernon College will be closed on August 13, 2026, for Staff Development.

However, evening classes at the Century City location and TDCJ will be held at their scheduled times.

Vernon College will reopen at our regular scheduled time on Friday, August 14th

Military-connected students, this is for you!

On August 11 and 12, Catholic Charities - Stay the Course, and Workforce Solutions will be on site at Century City Center to connect face-to-face with current and prospective Vernon College military-connected students.

These community partners are coming together to help students access support beyond the classroom—from resources and guidance to assistance with the challenges that can affect college success.

While this event is focused on supporting our military-connected students, these organizations have resources and services available to assist all Vernon College students.

You do not have to navigate college alone.
