Hello & thanks for visiting my page! My name is Alla Altshuler and I am the owner of the Sounds of Piano studio in Vernon Hills, IL. First and foremost, I am a wife, mother & piano teacher (secondly: a cook, music & art lover, book reader & "expert pinterester" as my daughter calls me). I teach students of any age with a focus on technique & theory within all different styles of music. Every stude
nt is unique with different goals, interests, and expectations. They like to listen and explore the music that connects with them and learn in all different ways. My goal as a teacher is to make my students love the act of playing piano and provide them with my learning experiences while creating a fun environment. The most important thing for me to take their existing interest in music and make it a part of their life today and for the future. I graduated the St. Petersburg (Russia) Music Conservatory in 1983 with a Bachelor of Music. I worked as a piano teacher and accompanist at the Balley School in Russia until the time I moved to the US in 1989. From 1995-2005, I worked at the Crescendo Music studio as the Piano teacher and also worked in the Famish Piano studio for 2 years during that time as well. I began my private teaching 27 years ago and turned it into my full time career in 2005. My students learn from basic piano foundation to master classes. They explore classical repertoire, jazz, and the popular music of our day. Lastly, I host group classes for any age where you learn about different composers and styles of music (happy to discuss in more detail). I am a member of the NWSMTA (Northwest Suburban Music Teachers Association) & my students participate in a variety of events such as recitals, festivals, & various competitions. I am lucky to have taken my deep passion and #1 interest and turn it into my career. I love what I do & all my students and am looking forward to meeting future piano players!
