D128 Board of Education Meeting -- Aug. 24, 2026

The D128 Board of Education will hold its regular monthly Board Meeting on Monday, Aug. 24, 2026, in the LHS Library. The meeting will begin with a closed session at 5:00 p.m., followed by open session of the regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. or soon thereafter. Community High School District 128 is proud to announce that Vernon Hills High School and Libertyville High School have once again been recognized among the best high schools in Illinois in the 2026–2027 U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools rankings.

VHHS Fun Friday is Back!

VHHS wrapped up the first week of the new school year with its first Fun Friday! Students made the most of their lunchtime “recess,” which included 9-Square in the Air, bags, checkers, music, giant Jenga, popsicles, a visit from Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee Truck, and the chance to dunk a teacher in the dunk tank!

Fun Fridays have become a special VHHS tradition. Hosted quarterly by Prevention and Wellness, they give students a chance to relax, connect and have some fun together.

VHHS Art Students Create Portraits for Students in India Through the Memory Project

Last Spring, VHHS art students in Allison Molloy's Drawing and Painting Studio class put their passion and artistic skills into rendering portraits for children in India who have been displaced from their families in some way and live with foster mothers while attending a common school. This project satisfies the Global Scholars course artifact and reflection for Drawing and Painting Studio.

Molloy explained: Through our partnership with the non-profit The Memory Project, which has partnered with orphanages across India, we aim to help offer these children both hope and global connections through personal, artistic creations. Our departmental funding of The Memory Project through creating artwork helps provide these children with food, education, and seeds for a positive future, in addition to the hand-painted portrait each child receives. VHHS art students participated in creating these portraits as outreach to offer these children kindness, respect, personal encouragement, and joy.

D128 Students Selected for 2027 All-State Theatre Production of Something Rotten!

Congratulations to the students selected to represent D128 in the 2027 Illinois High School Theatre Festival All-State Theatre production of Something Rotten! :

Students will rehearse over the holiday weekends this fall and perform the show at the Virginia Theatre in Urbana in January 2027. More than 400 students from across the state audition for the prestigious honor of performing in the production.

The Illinois High School Theatre Festival (ILHSTF) is the largest and oldest non-competitive high school theatre festival in the world. It brings together theatre artists for masterclasses, showcase performances, and the weekend's highlight—the All-State production.

D128 Freshmen Launch Workshops for the Class of 2030 began yesterday at VHHS and continue today at LHS. The workshops are half-day experiences designed to support students entering high school with their academic success and time management.​ LHS Social Studies Teacher Kevin O'Neill is pictured leading a workshop session at VHHS.
