VHHS CrossFit classes ​recently enjoyed a field trip to Crucible Fitness​ in Lake Bluff. Coach Sarah Ramp, along with VHHS teachers Allison Kotlinski and David Schroetter, led students through a real-life application of fitness beyond high school, including rope climbing, double unders, box jumps, and running.

​The VHHS CrossFit program just celebrated its 10th anniversary as a non-profit CrossFit affiliate. ​The teachers thoroughly enjoy taking students on field trips to local gyms to see potential workout options for summer break or after graduation. ​The program has partnered with Crucible Fitness, formerly ​known as CrossFit Lake Forest, for over ​five years, along with other gyms in the area.

Author Shelby Van Pelt visits Vernon Hills High School

On Tuesday, Oct. 13, Vernon Hills High School had the amazing honor of meeting Shelby Van Pelt, the author of the novel Remarkably Bright Creatures. She was able to speak to many different students throughout the day, sharing her story from how she first got into writing to how she now has a best-selling novel that was recently made into an Emmy Award-winning Netflix movie. At the end of the school day, students were able to bring their own copy of her novel for her to sign, and free bookmarks were available for students who didn't have a book but still wanted a keepsake.

A big thank you to Shelby Van Pelt from the Vernon Hills Cougars and all of D128 for making the time to visit and share your experience as a writer, and for helping inspire students to share their own stories one day!

LHS Dance Team Makes a Difference in the Community and Beyond

It was an incredible weekend for the LHS Dance Team! The annual Poms Clinic on Friday, Oct. 9, was a huge success, welcoming 225 elementary school participants who shared their love of dance, made unforgettable memories, and shined during the big performance on the football field. Thanks to the amazing participants, the team donated $2,000 to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

The Dance Team also participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Lake County Walk on Sunday, Oct. 11, to support survivors, honor those impacted by breast cancer, and help fund the American Cancer Society’s lifesaving work.

A heartfelt thank-you to everyone who donated to the team's annual canned food drive for St. Joseph’s Food Pantry. Your generosity helped the team provide an abundance of much-needed items to our local community.

A huge shout-out to the Dance Team athletes, coaches, parent volunteers, Sports 11, LHS Event Staff, LHS Buildings and Grounds Staff, and the LHS Athletic Department who made this event possible.

DARING Day 2026

Today, D128 students stepped outside the classroom and into a morning of opportunities to discover, connect, and grow through experiences designed to help them think about their futures and learn more about themselves. Options for each grade level included:

9th Graders:
Learn about character development and teamwork through a Green Dot and team-building at LHS and the RITE assembly at VHHS

10th Graders:
Hear from a keynote speaker on goals and exploration
Learn from speakers representing a variety of careers and professions
Explore possibilities at a career fair
Engage in goal-setting activities in SchooLinks

11th Grade Options:
Take a free practice ACT (or)
Take the PSAT/NMSQT

12th Grade Options:
Visit a postsecondary institution
Take the ASVAB test at the District Office
NEW this year: Seniors could drop in at the District Office for a college essay review, where college representatives and D128 English teachers provided feedback and guidance on their essays.

From exploring careers and college pathways to discovering more about who they are and where they want to go, DARING Day gives D128 students the tools, experiences, and connections to take their next steps with confidence.

Marching Wildcats Invited to 2028 London New Year's Day Parade

On Friday, Oct. 2, LHS had the pleasure of welcoming the London Parade Founder and Chairman Bob Bone and Parade Patron Steve Summers ​w​ho formal​ly invited the LHS marching band to perform in the London New Year’s Day Parade 2028 and spend a week in London.

This is not the first time the Wildcats marching band has traveled to London however, as Mr. Bone shared in his speech. They ​m​arched in the 2018 London Parade, and now the current members of the marching band can proudly show off our D128 spirit yet again, a whole decade later! Mr. Bone described the parade as "the greatest event in the greatest city in the world​," sharing that it has become the greatest parade in part because marching bands from all over America perform in it, creating the sound and the atmosphere of the whole parade and marking its signature.

He also share​d the number of people who attend the parade in person or through TV: half a million in person, and 340 million people around the world. So, if you'd like to join that number and cheer on ​t​he Marching Wildcats from home, turn on the PBS channel on New Year's Day​!​
