The Uintah High Boys Volleyball Club had a great experience at their first tournament over the weekend, going 2-2.

The Utes won their first match (25-11, 25-16), then lost their second match (21-25, 17-25), and third match (24-26, 21-25), before bouncing back to win their fourth match (25-20, 25-22).

Cooper Goodrich led Uintah with 21 kills, followed by Carter Stewart with 17 kills.

"We had many boys who stepped up and did an excellent job filling new roles on the team," club advisor John Topham said. "We're excited for what is to come!"

Congratulations Mrs. Muffler!

During Wednesday night's Uintah School Board meeting, the board celebrated Uintah High School English teacher Amanda Muffler.

Muffler, right, is one of 10 winners of this year's Utah Education Association Excellence in Education Award. She was honored for her instructional innovation, educational leadership, and advocacy for students.

Muffler is pictured with Uintah County Education Association - UCEA President and UHS English teacher Aaryn Birchell, who nominated her for the award and presented her to the board during Wednesday's meeting.

Happening tonight at 7 p.m.

Uintah High Choir will perform its fall concert — America, Amen — on Wednesday, Oct. 7, in the UHS auditorium.

The concert, which features music that celebrates the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding, begins at 7 p.m. Admission is FREE.

The performance will be streamed live on the Uintah High Choir page for those who can’t attend in person.

A faulty sensor triggered a fire alarm at about 8:20 a.m. Fire officials cleared the school. All students and staff are SAFE and have returned to class.

"This trimester, Uintah High School Resource Officers are excited to use the Troy Davis parking stall as a way to recognize teachers and students who are doing great things in our community and at Uintah High School. The goal is to recognize individuals who go above and beyond, make a positive difference, demonstrate leadership, and serve as great role models for our students.

This month's student, Stephany Womack, was nominated by math teacher Mrs. Hall: "Stephany is a hardworking and dedicated student who consistently demonstrates a strong work ethic. She participates in the Upward Bound program and puts a great deal of effort into maintaining her grades and staying committed to her education. She takes her responsibilities seriously and continues to work hard even when things are challenging. What stands out most about Stephany is that she is not only focused on her own success. She is always willing to help and encourage others so that they can be successful as well. She is a positive influence on the students around her and is a great example of perseverance, dedication, and kindness. I believe Stephany represents the qualities this recognition is meant to celebrate. She works hard, supports those around her, and consistently strives to be successful while helping others succeed along the way."

The parking stall will be awarded to one teacher or student for a two-week period, with the recognition rotating between teachers and students throughout the trimester.
