On this day in 1862, President Abraham Lincoln signed the Morrill Land-Grant Act, forever changing higher education in the United States.

The Morrill Act established land-grant universities to make higher education more accessible by focusing on practical fields like agriculture, engineering, and mechanical arts, while still providing a well-rounded education. Its goal was to expand educational opportunities for people who may not have otherwise had access to college.

Today, Utah State University proudly carries on that land-grant mission by providing research-based education, outreach, and service to communities across Utah through USU Extension.

More than 160 years later, the Morrill Act continues to shape lives by supporting education, innovation, and community development.

Here's to the lasting impact of the land-grant mission and the opportunities it continues to create!

Hello! My name is Teagen Lint, and I am excited to join Uintah County as the new Agriculture and Natural Resources Agent. I am eager to begin serving the community while advocating agriculture and natural resources throughout the county.

I am passionate about building relationships, supporting local producers and landowners, and connecting community members with resources and educational opportunities. I look forward to learning from the people of Uintah County and contributing to the continued success of our agricultural community.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time outdoors kayaking, camping, fishing, and rafting. I also enjoy cooking, baking, reading, painting, beading, and spending time with my fiancé, our dogs, and my family.

I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to meeting and working with all of you

The Utah Department of Agriculture & Food is hosting a 2026 Drought Meeting in Vernal next week.

Federal and state land agencies will present resources available to help you deal with drought conditions.
USU Extension specialists will also be on hand to cover rangeland and pasture health, livestock health, and farm economics.
