Remembering Recreation is a collaborative oral history project coordinated by the South Dakota Oral History Center and supported by the Chiesman Center for Democracy. We seek cohort members to help us interview seniors/elders from communities in the Northern Great Plains region who have memories of lost forms of community-based recreation. This might be roller-skating, social clubs, a particular type of dancing, neighborhood cookouts, boating on lakes that no longer exist— you tell us!
Scan the QR code to find out more and apply by June 21!
This summer, we seek 6 cohort members who:
• Are interested in learning about oral history and conducting interviews.
• Have good relationships with two seniors or elders in their community who have memories of recreating with/in community and would enjoy donating an interview on that topic.
• Can commit to completing 8 hours of online training, recording two oral history interviews with those seniors or elders, and participating in an online public event about the project.
Cohort members receive a $350 stipend and will be supported onsite by SDOHC personnel. Equipment will be provided.
