Atiq Rehman, the library GRA for the VR Lab won a competitive poster competition! The competition was part of the 2026 Artificial Intelligence Symposium at the University of South Dakota, organized by the Department of Computer Science. There were more than 100 submissions, and around 50+ research posters were presented at the symposium.
His group's poster, titled “A Controlled Benchmark for Deployable Land-Cover Pattern Analysis: Mapping the Efficiency–Accuracy Frontier of Classical CNN Encoders in High-Resolution Satellite Imagery,” received the Best Poster Award – First Place. The research focused on comparing different deep-learning models for satellite land-cover analysis and identifying the model that provides the best balance between accuracy and computational efficiency.
The symposium was held on September 8, 2026, at the Muenster University Center, University of South Dakota.
