MSFC USD condemns police brutality and stands in solidarity with the Black community in mourning the loss of George Floyd and in the fight to end state-sanctioned racial violence. Please see the statement below from our national organization.

"To achieve reproductive justice, Black lives must truly matter. The anti-abortion movement is curiously silent every time we're demanding for Black lives to matter. When will our right to life be recognized? Imagine a world where the budgets of police departments are invested in reproductive healthcare, education, and families. We must have the freedom to decide if, when, & how to grow and care for our families free from state-sanctioned violence and coercion." -We Testify
Medical Students for Choice stands in solidarity with the Black community and all those seeking justice in response to police violence and institutional racism. We stand with our Black members and alumni working to protect reproductive rights and justice for the Black community and beyond; both from within and outside of the healthcare system. We stand with other reproductive rights and/or justice organizations, especially organizations led by BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color), and will amplify their voices. At 8AM, Council members received this pledge from Black Visions and Reclaim the Block. They have 24 hours to sign on.⁣

With our city on fire and police accountability nowhere to be found, it is clearer than ever that safety in Minneapolis comes from the community and not from the police. ⁣
Many members of the Minneapolis City Council have made statements critical of MPD’s murder of George Floyd. We challenge them to publicly commit to building the city we need by cutting MPD’s budget and investing in the resources that really keep us healthy and safe. We need them to explicitly support Black communities, Indigenous communities, and communities of color with city dollars. ⁣

"The Justice through Empowerment Network (JEN) is here to here to help South Dakota patients, not just with funding for their abortion, but also with costs associated with transportation, childcare, lodging, interpreters, medications, food, birth control, and the morning-after pill. If a patient is unable to access care in South Dakota, JEN will help them get to another state. We are acknowledging the reality of our situation and partnering with established abortion funds and advocacy organizations to ensure that patients receive the care they need, regardless of location or income."
