Open Letter to all Seventh and Eighth Grade students,
My name is Coach D'Egidio and I, along with Head Coach DiFucci and all the other Sailor football coaches, would like to personally invite you to join the Vermilion Sailors football family as part of the Sailorway football program. As the recent success of the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams show, there is so much to gain from being part of the Sailor football program. Starting with the youth programs and continuing through the middle school teams and ultimately ending with the Varsity team, Vermilion Football is on its way back to prominence. This is your opportunity to join something special and be part of the resurgence of Sailor Football.
The benefits of joining a school sports team , above and beyond the glory and satisfaction of on field success, also cross over to the classroom and society as a whole. A number of studies show that students do much better in school when they are part of a sports team. A similar number of studies also show that the relationships built on the field provide the support many need off the field trying to navigate through society with all of its pressures and obstacles. The feeling of belonging to something special, something bigger than themselves, provides a sense of security and comfort among the teammates. Besides being part of a family, sports teams may be next in importance when it comes to relationships.
Middle School practice begins Friday, July 31st @ 6pm. when we hand out equipment. There is also the "Bring It On" celebration at the football field that players can attend after they receive their equipment. We will meet at the SMS Gymnasium entrance.
On Monday August 3rd, we officially start practice at 4pm. All you need is a current physical, a water bottle, and a desire to be part of something special.
Any boy or girl, and we have had girls play in the past, is welcome to come out and join football. We are excited at the opportunity that this new year brings. All players are given an equal opportunity to participate and play.
