A few months back, I had the joy of helping document the Ojai Food & Wine Festival—an epicurean weekend unlike any other. The talent was nothing short of extraordinary. I was fully immersed in a wine seminar hosted by Fingers Crossed Wine and Blackberry Farm’s Andy Chabot, where great storytelling flowed as freely as the wine.
What struck me most was the magnetic energy of Nik and Julia Krankl of Crossed. A husband-and-wife duo with hands and hearts fully in the work.
Fast forward to last week: I was invited to one of their facilities to document them in their element, focused, dedicated, and joyful, which was a reminder of why I love doing what I do.
Nik and Julia, you’re a delight to photograph and even more of a joy to be around.

While on our Willhouse Workaction, I grilled tomatillos, serranos, jalapeños, onions, and garlic to a smoky salsa verde. It elevated every meal—sunrise huevos, midday sandwiches —and its absence was felt once it was gone.

Rick is the ice cream lover in this duo—I’m usually a hard pass unless we’re talking a vegan scoop on a European vaca. But won me over. We even ended up visiting both their South Park and Kensington location.
