Connie Trujillo, arrived in Los Angeles in 2001 with a strong foundation in Spanish and a passion for Math and Science, leading her to a bachelor’s degree in Agronomy from Mexico. Her journey underscored the importance of mastering English, a crucial tool for her livelihood, and establishing a pathway to become an adult education instructor. Undeterred by language barriers, the following year, Trujillo, with the unwavering support of her husband, enrolled in the English As a Second Language (ESL) Program at Oxnard Adult School. “Oxnard Adult School was instrumental in equipping me with the skills I needed to secure a better job.”

From Mexico City to the classroom: Jesus Lopez-Varela's journey started with no English and no job. Today, he's teaching at Oxnard Adult School, helping students just like his former self. In 1987, Jesus arrived in the U.S. with dreams of better opportunities for his family. Oxnard Adult School gave him the tools to transform his life—ESL classes, career training, and a pathway to citizenship. From High School to Healthcare: Marie’s Dual Enrollment Advantage

While most college students were still finding their path, Marie Bell was already on the frontlines of healthcare. By enrolling in both VACE and California Lutheran University, she gained real-world experience and confidence to thrive in her biology major.
