While brushing up on my knowledge of Advent, I came across this description in https://www.clws.org/events/winter-spiral-and-the-meaning-of-advent/
"The word “Advent” means “coming” or “arrival.” It is used in the Christian tradition to refer to the four Sundays before Christmas, when people prepare for the birth of the Christ child. However, this seasonal observance has been kept by people around the world from all paths and beliefs; as autumn gives way to winter, we prepare for the return of the sun, the lengthening of days, and for the insights that we can gain from reflection on the year that has been and on what may be to come.
In Waldorf schools, for many years, children of all backgrounds have participated in the month-long observance of the rebirth of the light through songs, stories, craft activities, and the Winter Spiral festival. It is a way to give them an experience of quiet beauty in a season of busyness. In our school, the grades students gather each Monday morning for a special story to set the mood for the week. Each week honors one of the kingdoms of nature – the minerals, the plants, the animals, and humankind – and this is brought into classroom activities and decoration as well."

Adventuring where only our imaginations can take us. Our 7th graders led our younger students through a magical Halloween Journey- crossing rivers, mixing potions, and sailing the sea - transporting them to a world of wonder. With small treasures and treats collected along the way, their full pockets and brightened eyes and smiles were strong evidence of a journey well enjoyed ✨

Hi friends,
Some members of the VUSD Alternative Education Task Force (not me) have been invited to tour the Waldorf School of Santa Barbara. Maybe there’s still hope.

Hi friends,
I’ve done my best to communicate our wish for a public Waldorf school at the Alternative Education Task force, but it’s not looking like it’s done much good. The Task Force organizers said they would be organizing a visit to a Waldorf school over the summer but didn’t follow through on that. It seems apparent to me that they aren’t interested in starting Waldorf school.

Early childhood development expert Nancy Carlsson-Paige: 'Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that we would have to defend children’s right to play."
