Last night Mark was one of the honorees at the “Heroes Among Us” benefit that celebrated civilians who went way beyond the norm in giving their time and resources to helping people recover after the Thomas fire destroyed their homes in Ventura last year.
The benefit was a fundraiser for the Ventura Police Foundation and our police Chief was there to congratulate the heroes with other officers.
Mark is one of the several locally elected “heroes” for KIRF’s fundraising and aid given to 58 families (mostly renters with no insurance) who lost their homes and everything in them. The Thomas fire destroyed over 500 homes here in Ventura and took two lives during the fire and 23 after in the Montecito mudslides that happened as a result of the fire. It was the largest fire in California’s history until the Mendocino complex fire in July.
KIRF is currently helping people who lost their rented homes due to the massive Carr Fire in the Redding area with local network we have in Northern California.
We take over 95% of our donated funds and distribute them to families—typically in the form of $500 gift cards but also requested supplies. The families are referred to us by people who know them and their loss personally. They spend the gift cards at local stores on what they need and when they need them. The gift cards help the local economy and help people maintain their independence as they put their lives back together. The gift cards show them that they matter and people really care about them.
If you want to help a family please make a donation to KIRF at our website http://www.kirfaid.com
KIRF has 501 (c)(3) tax exempt status and is non-profit Foundation founded in the state of California in 2005.
