Venice Sailing Squadron The Venice Sailing Squadron organizes races, cruises and bountiful monthly potluck dinners followed by informative programs related to sailing.

Membership is open to anyone with an interest in sailing, sailboats and boating in general. A comic once said, "If the sea calls, hang up! In 1973, a group of Venice area sailors didn't hang up - they organized the Venice Sailing Squadron (VSS) to promote sailing, seamanship, and navigation. Today, with nearly 90 memberships, the Venice Sailing Squadron is among one of the most active sailing organizations in the Southwest Florida area.

The 2026 Bone Island Regatta commenced off the Venice, Florida jetty today at 12pm .
Nearly 30 boats are participating from SW Florida in this regatta.
Ideal conditions, with 10 kn breeze with all boats starting on a close reach in the 180 mile race to Key West.

What is a Change of Watch (COW)? In nautical terminology, the COW ceremony is a long-standing tradition that formally reaffirms the continuity and authority of command, involving the transfer of responsibility, authority, and accountability from one board to another. We recently hosted this event at Maxine Barrett Park in Venice, Florida, with over 50 members in attendance. The event featured our popular rain gutter regatta, presentation of seasonal racing awards, change of guard, and an exceptional catered meal. We extend our gratitude to each member for joining, volunteering, and participating in our seasonal events, making this another successful year. ⛵️⛵️⛵️

Winds 10-12 kn out of the SW.

The Annual VSS Kayak event at Casey Key, followed by dinner at Casey Key Fish House, proved again to be an excellent outing. Weather conditions were favorable, avoiding both strong winds and excessive heat. The dinner was well-attended and featured the usual boat and non boat stories . We appreciate the efforts of board member Jerry, who ensured everyone had a good time .
Looking forward to another fun event next year ! ⛵️⛵️

Saturday racing results from 4/18/26 -
5 boats were out with Zoryana taking 1st and Raegan-e coming in second ! Good to see Raegan-e back on the water .
